---BACKGROUND---
* Heritage: halfblood (i think)
Family: Moira and James McGonagall. Her mother died 20 years ago and her father is still alive and working in the ministry living in London. She was an only child.
History:
Minerva was a Gryffindor student from 1937 to 1944 growing up in a fairly typical half blood family. Her father was a wizard, her mother a muggle. She was an only child growing up with a foot in both worlds and having to keep her magical heritage a secret from her muggle relatives. She was part of a happy loving family with her father working in the Ministry while her mother looked after the house staying at home which was the norm those days.
During her time in Hogwarts she became a prefect which might explain why she sees rules breaking as being so wrong. She would also have first known Albus Dumbledore as a first year before he became headmaster. This was the beginning of a friendship which would last a long long time.
After graduation she went to a muggle teacher training college in Scotland where she gained the grounding she needed to teach in muggle schools. She taught in various muggle schools for eight years after she qualified before she secured the Transfiguraton Professorship.
She has held the Transfiguration Professorship since 1956 and resumed her friendship with Albus Dumbledore again this time as a colleague. A friendship which would last even during the dark paranoid times of the 1970's and the first wizarding war.
She became head of Gryffindor in 2001 after the previous head retired. The same year the trio started as first years. She also served as deputy head to Albus Dumbledore and became Head Mistress briefly after his death and before the Ministry fell under Voldemort's control in 2007.
She is a long serving member of the Order of The Phoenix acting firstly as Dumbledore's deputy in the Order over two wizarding wars and then leading the forces of good during the Battle of Hogwarts as the acting Headmistress.
She also traditionally does the sorting ceremony.
Now that Voldemort is dead and the war is over bar mopping up some Death Eaters she fervently hopes that peace can again come to the wizarding world. Things look brighter already with her Order colleague Kingsley Shacklebolt as Minister of Magic and the students have returned for another years schooling.
A year she hopes will start a healing process between Slytherin house and the rest of the school. She's no fool and knows the wounds and pain in the wizarding world run deep.
Hunter Evans was appointed Headmaster by the board of governors after the battle of Hogwarts over her but she figures its time to hand the torch onto a younger head teacher and a fellow Order member. She isn't resentful about this.

She sees this school year as the start of the process of reconcilliation between Slytherin house and the rest of the school and will work hard to achieve this aim. She also feels if the injuries can be healed in the school they can also be healed in the wizarding world given enough time.
