Don't let people drive you crazy when you know it's in walking distance.

Padril was, understandably, shocked by this and quickly decided on his response. A joke to lighten the mood would not at all of been appropriate and he could hardly relate experiences. His Uncle had been killed by Death Eaters but Padril had never seen it as his fault. He didn't know what to say, he couldn't express his real feelings (Death is a random occurence. It has no duty or function and we must simply struggle on) as he didn't believe Aethie would like Seraphim's death as being random.
"Sometimes," he began. "Things happen that we can't justify. We can't see reason in a lot of things. And when these things are bad, people tend to blame themselves," he gave her a sympathetic look. "Horrible things happen to wonderful people. Sometimes, there is no logic and there is no blame. When that happens, we can only move on."

Aethie nodded; Padril's words made sense, and it was something she'd come to learn and accept on her own over the years. She no longer blamed herself, nor wished that their places could have been traded...but Seraphim's death had helped to shape the person Aethie had become, and she knew that she would never stop missing her baby sister.
"Have you ever...lost someone close to you?" she asked quietly, looking up at Padril from where she was nestled in the crook of his arm.

"Well, my Uncle," Padril told her with a lighter voice than what was appropriate. "But we weren't really close, per say. He'd been in a few Wars and I think that was the way he wanted to die. Fighting. It's all he knew." That made him sadder than anything, the need for human conflict.
"This is really too serious for pillow talk," Padril told her. "What's your favourite colour?"

Aethie was surprised and a little relieved by the sudden topic switch. Not that she minded talking to Padril about Seraphim, but he was right - it had gotten a little too serious.
"Turquoise," she said without thinking. "Like the color of the ocean in Greece...it's so beautiful. What about you?"

"Jade," Padril replied after some consideration. "It's just a cool colour. Have you been back to Greece recently?" He began to stroke her hair again gently, enjoying the silky texture. He was going out with a Half-Veela, he still found it hard to believe.
