"I never said destiny and fate didn't exist. I just said I didn't care for them" Lucy replied. Everybody knew divination and prophecies were a daily fact of life. She also knew he'd brushed of what she said about quidditch and her question about same sex relationships and looked surprised about it. It was a left field question to throw in so she put it down partly to that, partly to the views that were expressed about it in both worlds.
"I don't want to go out with a guy so you're safe on that count. People have known that about me for years. So if you exclude guys from your future love life it only leaves one option. One which will put me on a rough road in this world but one I'll travel all the same" she added. She sounded relaxed and at ease with herself. She'd made this choice years ago ad would see it through.

No! Not Barker. That man is dead. It's Todd, now. Sweeney Todd. And he shall have his revenge...

"Oh good, you're a fag too," Oliver said, relieved. "That would of been an awkward situation otherwise. Phew." He stood, suddenly keen to be moving. He balanced on a log and began to walk across it. "I mean that's what we are. Fags. Queers. Homosexuals. Gay. Whatever they call us next, it's what we are."
He jumped off the log with a dramatic sweep, "I hate to fulfill the stereotype of the Broadway gay but..." He shrugged. "I am what I am."

"And I thought I was alone here. People who call us the first two names are the same ones who'd use the M word when insulting muggleborns. The ones too blind to see past their own little goldfish bowl sized world. Even Moaning Myrtle can say I don't go for boys but at least she left it at that.
I prefer 'Lesbian' myself but we are what we are. So do you see a future on the stage?" she gently replied and asked.

"Oh, poop. All gay people are politically active. Let's fight the stereotype," Oliver told her with a light, sing-song voice as he tumbled across the clearing, eager not to stay in any single location. "A future on stage?" He paused, catching his breath. "I hope so. It's hard to get into though. Some of those people..."
He leaped across the clearing and turned on his toes. "They're pretty impressive."

"Don't we all have to fight for what we believe in but I want to play pro-quidditch. Always have done ever since I got here. Even when had to tryout for Hufflepuff on an ancient house broom.
You've got as good a chance as anybody to make in in that business. As long as you keep working on your dream you've always a chance to achieve it" Lucy replied. She was content to stay where she was although she was pretty agile on her feet as well.
"I used to play football before I came here. I was just as agile dashing down a touchline as you are tumbling" she added with a little sigh. She missed those days but couldn't bring them back even if she wanted to.

"Oh wonderful," Oliver replied, unsure of how to respond properly. He wasn't particularly interested in her at all. She didn't seem like his sort of person, more sports focused than art focused. "Well, I'm off then." Picking up his things, he turned to leave the clearing again.
"I can't say I hated meeting you Lucy but it wasn't exactly a pleasure," he sung lightly as he left the clearing, quickly reverting back to his useful, withdrawn and shy self.

Internally Lucy was annoyed at this parting comment but she didn't show any reactions. She was enough of a realist to know not everybody would like her so she wouldn't be in this state of mind for long.
The only thing she knew for sure from this encounter was that she'd found another member of the community she belonged too. He didn't seem to like her but that was his loss not hers. He however wouldn't be lumped in with the other useless males of the school population. He did have real talent for what he wanted to do in the future.
She kicked her stone again wishing it was a football and then went on her way too. This encounter hadn't changed things round her too much but she wasn't alone in being into same sex relationships.
