Family:His father was Damokles Torlen(both deceased), his mother was Alexis, and his mother's brother was Aetos Ajaun(deceased). His wife is Miranda Torlen (deceased), and he has two children: Michael Torlen (who is a squib) and Calista Hircine. Michael is currently single, while Calista is married and has two children, Joseph and Rose., both have the Gift.
History:
Born to a Greek muggle family in 1928, Nickarlen grew up like any other muggle boy of that time. His father ran the local inn, while his mother was very much a house wife. The local village was pleasant and small, and almost entirely avoided notice from the outside world. However, on 10th of December 1935, his Seventh Birthday, several things happened. He had a vision of strange soldiers coming to his village, speaking in a strange language and talking about something called the Holocaust, in his native language meaning "completely burnt". Confused, he told his mother of his vision, who was worried, but told him nothing was wrong.
Concerned, Nickarlen decided to play with his friends in the nearby rocky cove. There was a flash flood, but somehow the water parted for Nickarlen and his friends. When they returned to the village, there was a lot of confusion as everyone tried to make sense of what happened, until they declared it a miracle. For the next four years, similar "miracles" occurred around Nickarlen- a fall that should of been fatal didn't break a bone, a disease that killed the strongest of men only gave him the sneezes- until suspicion began to grow about him. For his safety, Nickarlen was sent to England to live with his Uncle, who happened to be a wizard but had kept it secret from his family. He arrived in England at 1938. On his eleventh birthday, Nickarlen was surprised and delighted to find he was a wizard. His Uncle didn't have much money however, so Nickarlen had to go to school in second-hand robes.
He was sorted into Ravenclaw and it was quickly realised what potential he had. He had amazing results in Charms and Transfiguration in his first year. When he came home however, he found something shocking and terrible at happened in the year 1939 when he was at Hogwarts. War had broken out in Europe, but Nickarlen's Uncle confirmed for him it was 'a muggle affair' and they shouldn't worry about such issues. Nickarlen was concerned, but took his Uncle's advice.
His Second Year was even more successful than his First, and it was widely regarded he would become a great wizard. He excelled in his previous subjects once again. He was a popular child, because of his friendly manner, but never got on well with the Slytherin's, because of his Blood Status and poverty. When he came home in the summer of 1940, the War had intensified, and Nickarlen grew more and more fearful for his parents. His Uncle still stopped him from helping his parents however, and Nickarlen was sent to Hogwarts for his Third Year. He excelled in Divination and History of Magic, and it was soon found he was a gifted seer Throughout his third year, he was completely oblivious to the outside world, due to his Uncle sending only information on the wizarding world. When he returned home in 1941, he discovered Greece had been invaded by Nazi's over six months previously. He was furious at his Uncle, and left for Greece.
Using his magic, he infiltrated German lines and arrived home in Greece. His old village had been burnt to the ground, and there was no trace of the survivors. He spent the summer trying to hunt down the family, until his Uncle tracked him down and brought him back to England. Nickarlen never forgave his Uncle for not helping him. His Fourth Year at school was spent sulking, and many Professors were disappointed in him. However, in the beginning of his Fifth Year, he met a girl in Hufflepuff called Miranda. She was muggle-born too, and her family was in France. They became close friends, and Nickarlen soon started achieving top grades in class again. In 1942, in his Sixth Year, he and Miranda started dating and every summer they'd try to contact their families through whatever means necessary. In 1943, his Seventh Year, the Chamber of Secrets was opened.
Nickarlen and Miranda survived those horror stricken months, when a girl was found dead in the bathroom. They were both surprised and shocked when Tom Riddle accused Hagrid of opening the Chamber, but considering he was such a well thought of and brilliant student, Nickarlen figured he must be correct.
He graduated in 1944 with Miranda, and they journeyed into war-torn Europe, where Grindlewald and Hitler alike tore the country apart. They found Miranda's parents on the run, but were too late by about half an hour. Grindlewald had come and killed the 'muggle filth'.
Miranda was heart-broken, so both she and Nickarlen left back to England. They married, and had a baby girl together in 1948. During his time as a family man, Nickarlen made many advances in Arthimacy, Divination, Transfiguration and Astronomy. His papers were published in many notable wizarding books, and his own book The Secrets Behind the Veil, has been noted as ground-breaking in the field of Divination. He was also one of the loudest voices to Dumbledore for the defeat of Grindlewald, and he and Miranda celebrated for a weeks when he was finally defeated. They had another child, a boy, in 1950. The next twenty years were filled with family life for Nickarlen, and he was given the nickname "Goldeye" because of his various visions, that were usually correct. He published several more books and gathered enough money for his children to have proper books and robes. He was slightly disappointed neither of his children carried the Gift, but still loved them none the less. It was during this time he became an accomplished Occlumens and Leglimens, in his need to challenge himself.
In 1970 though, when he was 42 years old, Voldermort rose to power. Throughout the following war, Nickarlen and his family were very outspoken against the Dark Lord, and eventually the Dark Lord saw fit to end the Torlen family. Nickarlen was given word of this from the Order, however, shortly before it happened. Nickarlen arrived to find his house in chaos, as his family battled Death Eaters. With Goldeye's arrival, the Death Eaters were driven back or killed. But the Torlen family had its own casualties...his Uncle who had come to assist the family had died. Miranda layed in the hallway, the life gone from her eyes. Goldeye has mourned her passing ever since, and is somewhat less cheery and open as he used to be.
He fought madly throughout the war, but after the Fall of Voldermort, he retreated to his normal self, occasionally suffering an outburst. During this time, he only wrote one Divination Book and three papers, only one of which found its way to a proper journal. He moved to his homeland in Greece, and enjoyed a quiet life, until Voldermort was spotted again. Goldeye was worried during these periods, but when the English Ministry declared its Mud-blood policy, Goldeye knew Voldermort had taken over it. Fearing for his family, Nickarlen, the famous Mud-blood, marched into England. He evaded capture, and gathered his family.
During the Second Wizarding War, Goldeye spent all his efforts in keeping his family alive and hidden, up to the point of casting the Fidelius Charm on his house, with himself as the Secret Keeper. During the War, Goldeye had a vision of half a dozen Death Eaters preparing the slaughter of entire muggle mall. There was a pair at each exit from the building, and another three at the main entrance. Knowing their positions, Goldeye ambushed the pairs, then engaged in a furious duel with the trio, using the advantage of surprise, he defeated them all. He then sealed the mall, and started casting dozens of Oblivation charms on the muggles. As he was leaving the mall, another pair of Death Eaters ambushed him and captured him. This was witnessed by a wizard who, frightened, apparated away. Goldeye spent the rest of the war in Azkaban, which added to his madness.
He was released after the war, and the witness wizard informed the Ministry of his actions. Together with his earlier contributions and sacrifices for the wizarding world, Nickarlen "Goldeye" Torlen was given a Order of Merlin, 1st Class. With grown children now, and a grandson as well, Nickarlen now seeks a teaching position at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
Personality: Goldeye is mentally unbalanced, going anywhere from a court-jesters madness to a psychotic killer in a blink of an eye. Though he hardly ever becomes the dangerous madman anymore, great danger or anger can throw Goldeye into this state, making him very dangerous to be around. He takes great care of his students, though his random madness strikes fear in many a young heart, and he may occasionally take points from a House just to see an outraged face, before he would give them back again. He is often childish, far from his once brilliant self in his youth, and finds dispute in the most trivial of matters. Sometimes, his old self may be shown, in the most serious of matters for brief moments. He is only truely serious now days when there is a murder, on Valentines, his anniversary or the day his wife died. On Valentines he kissed Miranda for the first time.
Likes: Anything he doesn't dislike really. Its kinda of a black and white world for Goldeye.
Dislikes: Ignorance, unnecessary violence, prejudice, Death Eaters, rudeness.
