Family: Parents are Peter and Rosemary O'Brien. Husband is Sebastian Burke. Also has a deceased brother named Titus Romulus O'Brien who died in Azkaban when Arabella was only 10 years old.

History:
Background Story: Arabella was the typical daughter of a small and reasonably well off Irish pureblood family. All went well in her life until a bombshell hit the family during the first wizarding war.
Her older brother Titus was discovered to be a follower of Voldemort and convicted to life in Azkaban after being caught by aurors during a botched attempted murder. The target fought back and while Titus’ colleagues escaped he was caught in a full body bind and was convicted by the Wizengamot.
This shock brought her into the war and the resulting problems it caused the family over the years forced her towards support of the Dark Lord and the realisation she would at some point in her life end up working for him. Her parents encouraged her to prepare for this.
After graduating from Durmstrang she went to a wizarding teacher training college which was part of the Durmstrang Institute where she graduated knowing how to teach Care of Magical Creatures and Herbology.
She returned to her old school when she was 21 and was the assistant professor in Herbology there. She’s also taught Care of Magical Creatures in Beauxbatons as an assistant professor.
After the events of the Tri-wizard tournament she became a spy for Voldemort using her job as a freelance dragon expert to gather information from all around Europe for her Lord as well as raising her young daughter Lucia.
During the last year of the war she was employed by Severus Snape the newly appointed Headmaster to replace Professor Hagrid who was demoted to gamekeeper.
Even with her personal views she never incorporated the racist dogma that the Thicknesse era ministry spouted into her CoMC lessons. She kept her classes neutral still acting like a friendly gentle teacher in order to expose students who were in the Order or Dumbledore’s Army and made the mistake of trusting her. That never happened although and she never exposed her TA Lizzie Porter who was a Gryffindor and a member of The Order.
She gave birth in April of that year to her second child Dorcas Livia Burke and returned to the school as part of the gang of followers that fought on Voldemorts side. She was found at the bottom of a pile of corpses after the battle barely alive and badly bleeding.
After treatment she was tried by the Wizengamot and sentenced to a long spell in Azkaban. Her husband is standing by her even although he didn't know she worked for the Dark Lord during the war.
Now she spends her days thinking and crying. She truly wants to atone for what she did and missing her husband and children so badly. She barely eats and sees very little point to just existing in a prison cell. Now skin and bones and barely hanging onto her sanity she’s doomed to die like there just like her brother unless events improve dramatically for her..

Arabella was motivated to be a Loyal Follower because of her brothers death in Azkaban and her parents preparing her for the task she would have in the future. They had faith that Voldemort would return and their remaining child was prepared and sent to Durmstrang for that reason. This was the fight for her not them.
This belief and faith in the Dark Lord held (but kept a secret from everyone including her husband) until she was actually employed at Hogwarts although it started to slip once she seen what was going on in the school. She'd always had a soft heart even with being a secret dark witch, master spy and murderess. It was fear of her children and husband being hurt that drove her into the battle of Hogwarts rather than loyalty to him. Victory would have secured her children's future but instead they lost.
Arabella always had a close link with the teaching assistant Lizzie Porter whom she seen as a prodigy and almost as the older daughter she never had.
This link was stronger than the dark times over the previous year and was the reason Arabella never turned her in or tried to extract information about Dumbledore's Army or the Order from her. She also never sent any of her class to the Carrow's for punishment.
They had a good working relationship even as Arabella ran a Slytherin student based spy ring. During this period of time she kept her classes totally neutral and never revealed her true nature as a true believer although this belief was starting to wane by the time she went of on maternity leave. Once she left Professor Grubbly-Plank took over again.
They met unexpectantly on opposite sides during the battle of Hogwarts and Arabella gave Lizzie one of her scars. Another of them came when Lizzie rescued Arabella from falling masonry.
A piece of this cut short Arabella's involvement who was wearing an owl mask but still could be recognised by her red hair. Without her TA's action she would have most likely died from her serious headwounds along with the other Death Eaters trapped with her.
After treatment she had a swift and speedy trial being whisked of to Azkaban to contemplate her actions and future.
Now she is insane as her troubled mind tries to reconcile what she did to protect her family, husband and parents with the love she feels for her children. Daughters which she thinks she will never see again and will grow up hating her.
Right now she's finely balanced between a remorseful redemption and the hatred that threatens to make her a very dangerous loyal follower.
She still retains her mental sharpness, skills and ideas and has the potential to be a leader of the new Death Eaters or at least in the inner circle if she is sprung from jail.
