---BASIC DETAILS---
* Full Name: Tristan Zephyr Ainsley Cruz
* Date of Birth: February 23rd, 1978
* Place of Birth: Tinworth, England
* Gender: Male
* Race: Human/Wizard
* Appearance:
* Occupation: Potions Professor
---BACKGROUND---
* Heritage: Pure-blood
Family:
Mother - Bianca Cruz
Father - Rodderick Ainsley
Two sisters - Valentine (22) and Zenith (24)
One brother - Favian (27)
Wife - Fayre Thackary (29)
History: Zephyr was born in Tinworth, Cornwall, England to a Spanish mother and English father; Rodderick and Bianca had an arranged marriage. Both of their families were magical for many generations, and held fastidiously to the belief that wizards should marry witches. To prevent Bianca from marrying a Muggle, her parents arranged with the Ainsleys to have her marry Rodderick. Although in the beginning the two were skeptical about the marriage, they grew to like and then love each other; and to this day both swear that the arranged marriage was the best thing that has ever happened to them. The couple lived with Rodderick's parents on the Ainsley estate for the first two years of their marriage, and then moved to Tinworth (much to Rodderick's parent's dismay) when Bianca found she was pregnant with Zephyr. The two did not want their children raised in a home where they would be taught to hate Muggles and mudbloods. Life went on happily enough in the small half-wizarding, half Muggle village, and Zephyr grew up with the sea as a playmate. When he was three, his brother Favian was born, and the two were the best of friends; constantly out on the cliffs exploring and daring each other to try all sorts of stupid stunts, and later when their sisters were born, teaming up and pulling endless pranks on the girls. That ended when Zenith was twelve, and hexed them both soundly with a Bat Bogey Curse. (She was well punished when the letter came from the Ministry about it, though.)
Around the age of ten, Zephyr began to insist that he be called by his middle name instead of his first name (Tristan). The only reason he ever gave for this was that he said that he hated the way the name sounded in his maternal grandmother's mouth; she made it sound almost like a communicable disease, he joked. He stopped responding to the name Tristan entirely, and eventually his family capitulated and began to call him Zephyr as he requested. When he arrived at Hogwarts and his name (Tristan Ainsley) was called, he refused to sit on the stool and be sorted until Professor McGonagall called him Zephyr. All throughout his Hogwarts years, Zephyr was top in Potions; other than that, he couldn't have cared less about school. He had a brilliant mind but chose not to use it; nonetheless he scraped through his NEWTS in DADA, Charms, and Herbology with an 'A' in each; an 'E' in Arithmancy, and an emphatic 'O' in Potions. When he was sixteen, he adopted his mother's maiden name as his own surname, thinking that 'Zephyr Cruz' had a much nicer ring to it than 'Zephyr Ainsley'. Despite his parent's best efforts to raise their children as Muggle tolerant, in his formative years Zephyr followed his grandparent's way of thinking much more closely than his parent's. During his first five or six years at Hogwarts, he considered himself generally better than the Muggle-borns and carried himself with a general air of contempt when it came to others whose blood was not as pure as his. However, in sixth year, his eye was caught by a Hufflepuff girl named Fayre Thackary. She was, in a word, brilliant; the most talented witch he had ever seen. He asked her on a date, and after several weeks of spending every waking moment together, he was stunned to learn that she was a Muggle-born. He had just assumed that, being as good as she was at magic, she must have been a pure blood. But although they had only known each other for a few weeks, he had to admit to himself that he was in love with her, and then and there his ideas about pure-bloods being better than others dissipated. He proposed to her at Christmas of their seventh year at Hogwarts and were married the summer after graduation. His grandparents refused to attend the wedding. They settled down also in Tinworth, near to his parents, hoping to have children shortly. Alas, Fayre proved to be infertile, dashing their dreams of parenthood. Although they discussed adoption, they ultimately decided against it. Zephyr joked that they could never adopt because his grandparents would have all had heart attacks. Instead they adopted several dogs and cats. Currently they have three dogs - a German Shepherd named Diesel, a Beagle named Winchester, and a Lab/Chow cross named Lacey - and four cats - Loki, Kitchu, Tequila, and Bootstrap.
Being pure blood, Zephyr and his family were relatively safe during Voldemort's reign of terror. Fayre, however, was another story - she was a Muggle-born, and had to go into hiding. She had a great-aunt in Canada who agreed to harbor her and Zephyr, who refused to be parted from his wife. They spent a year living in Toronto, Ontario, before returning to England upon the Dark Lord's death. Zephyr's family, being pure-blood and belonging to the Ainsley clan, had been safe (for the most part), as the Ainsleys were somewhat notorious for their pure-blood mania and 'Voldemort-esque' ideas.
Zephyr and Fayre returned to their home in Tinworth, reuniting with both family and pets (who had been cared for by both Zephyr's family and Fayre's Muggle relatives) and attempted to get their lives back in order. Fayre returned to her job as a Healer for St. Mungo's, and Zephyr, who had always been somewhat happy-go-lucky with his life, got a job bartending at a Muggle pub. However, upon hearing that Slughorn had retired from teaching, immediately applied for the position of Potions Professor. Upon being granted the position, he promptly sold his house in Tinworth and moved with Fayre and their seven pets to a cottage in Hogsmeade. He returns there on the weekends to live with his wife and animals.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
* Personality: He's very cheerful, very happy-go-lucky. He's the kind of guy who never has a plan, and likes to simply fly by the seat of his pants. He hates arguments and confrontation, and has become somewhat adept at steering himself out of these situations with either his wonderful sense of humor or his ability to simply shrug off negativity. Everything seems to just slide off of him and never stick; nothing seems to affect him badly, he is always in a good mood. He likes just about everybody and has an innate sense that allows him to get along with just about anyone. He's the kind of person who wants everyone around him to feel happy and comfortable, and works towards that goal continuously. Having said that, he does have a little bit of a thing against Gryffindor, and doesn't particularly go out of his way to be nice to students in that house. Blame it on the rivalry.
* Likes: Good food (especially pasta!), good manners, Butterbeer, animals, people, parties, being social, the sea, pranks, jokes, good conversation
Dislikes: Negativity, fights, arguments, confrontations, bad manners
Habits: He's always laughing or making a joke about something. And he bites his nails. A lot. He also likes to pick at scabs.
* Does your character like Quidditch? Of course! He was the best damn Keeper you ever saw when he was at school!
---ABILITIES---
* Strengths: He's ridiculously charming, and can make just about anyone like him. If he were to get the teaching job at Hogwarts, probably every single girl in his classes would have a crush on him. He's very smart when it comes to debate; not argument, but he has a cool head and doesn't ever lose his temper, making it difficult to rattle him. He's got a good head for figures and can do complicated math in his head in seconds.
* Weaknesses: Not liking to be in confrontational situations, Zephyr's duelling abilities are substantially below par. If he were to get into a kill-or-be-killed situation, unless he had help of some kind, there's a good chance that he'd get owned.
Powers: I'm not sure if this is considered a 'power' or not, but just the ability to make other people feel good when he's around them. Not even by talking to them or whatever, but when he's around, people just feel happier. It doesn't have to be a power, but it's just something that he does. He emits a ton of pheromones or something.
---OTHER---
Pets: A German Shepherd named Diesel, a Beagle named Winchester, and a Lab/Chow cross named Lacey - and four cats - Loki, Kitchu, Tequila, and Bootstrap. Also a barn owl named Tennyson.
Wand: 11 1/4 inches, Dogwood and Unicorn Hair
Which Hogwarts house would you NOT like to be in?: I would like him to have been a SLYTHERIN, because in his early years he was much more pro pure-blood than he is now.
Anything else?: Nope...s'about it.
