If, before now, you have not listed a gender in your profile, you will have found that you are now being forced to select one. Some people are concerned about how this information will be used, so this thread is to answer that.
This is a Proboards change, and effects all of their boards. It's not something that we have added ourselves.
Here's what Craig from Proboards Support has to say:
And that's pretty much all there is to it. However, you can now also hide your gender when you modify your profile (you still need to select a gender, it's just that nobody will see it). If you did not have this option earlier today, modify your profile now and you should see it. This will hide your gender from all of the other members, AND the WR Staff (so it remains confidential even from myself and the mods).

The need to add your gender has been added for a number of reasons.
In the main, it's in preparation for our next version, where we, and you can customise messages gender specifically. For example, we can have a message, say, in my profile, it can say view his most recent posts instead of the view recent posts by this member. The former, i'm sure you will agree, is more 'friendlier'.
