---BACKGROUND---
Heritage: Pure-blood
Family: Timothy (younger brother), Mark and Sarah (parents)
History:
Padril was born to a middle class Australian family in rural Adelaide. His parents were both experts in Potions and often travelled the country as lecturers and researchers. At first homeschooled, his father encouraged him to constantly ask questions and, more importantly, to let no one tell him what to think. Only later in life would Padril notice the irony in this.
When he was one, Sarah had another child. Though Padril and Tim often fought, as brothers do, they are still friends and often played together as young children, with Padril leading of course.
Unfortunately, as he was often asking questions, Padril discovered many mature things at an early age. He was devastated by the death, poverty and general state of humanity, and was very emotional for years. He personally felt connected to every being and found it difficult to think about other things. When he was ten, he began to separate himself from these emotions. Though he was still hurt about the world, he simply adapted. Since then, Padril hasn’t been very emotional, as he prefers to keep his feelings to himself. Even today, he feels terrible about the state of the planet and is worried he’d become depressed if he talks about it.
When he was nine, Padril was sent to a muggle public school as both his parents currently had full-time jobs. It was here he discovered his extraordinary intellect. He would instantly understand complicated questions, naturally unravelling them in his mind. He was fascinated with politics, the world and particularly science. This intelligence made him a bit arrogant and he became unlikable to a lot of students.
Eventually, on the way home from school one day, he was cornered by a pair of bullies. While still being punched and kicked, Padril continued to insult the kids, until eventually a much bigger kid came along. His name was Harley Duke.
Harley quickly got rid of the bullies and was bemused by Padril’s constant insults at the kids. The two became fast friends and were nearly inseparable for a year and Padril’s arrogance faded. He took pride in his intelligence, but he didn’t boast or make fun of those who did not have his gift. Padril’s father and mother then got a job overseas in London, where his mother’s family was, and the Crennents left the country.
When Padril was eleven and went into Hogwarts, he was instantly placed in Ravenclaw. He soon discovered his friend from Australia, Harley, had also come to Hogwarts and had been placed in Gryffindor, and so the two friends began to have the time of their lives.
Though Padril was dedicated to study, the two constantly played pranks on the teachers and other students. Padril helped Harley with study, and Harley would make sure no one messed with Padril. The pair also discovered their love for Quidditch and began to play it at every opportunity, Padril as chaser and Harley as beater.
As the two got older though, they began to drift apart. Padril became more philosophical and political, while Harley became focused on being an Auror. Padril was sometimes insulted, as being the much quieter one, Harley often treated him as a sidekick.
Padril’s grandfather, Christopher, and his Uncle, Oscar, owned a potion store in Diagon Alley. When Christopher died of old age in Padril’s 5th year, he left his shares of the store to Tim and Padril, infuriating Oscar. The two relocated the store to Hogsmeade and began to sell Quidditch supplies under the label “Crennents Quality Quidditch Supplies.”
When Dolores Umbridge came into power, Padril was very anti- authoritarian and, though he fought against her, did not join the DA. He taught himself and, eventually when the Death Eaters took over Hogwarts, he made a similar approach. He avoided taking a side in the War for as long as possible, until the War itself came to Hogwarts. Seeing that he had no choice, he fought in the battle with Harley. His uncle, Oscar, had been called in when the students fled to Hogsmeade and died in the battle. Padril was grief-stricken by Oscar’s death, further distancing himself from the people around him. This only increased when Harley asked out the girl he knew Padril liked, Jaden Aerins. Only a few years later, he left her to join the Auror training camp without so much as a goodbye. Padril still has not acted on his feelings for her, still feeling isolated.
When Padril graduated with high marks, he began a solitary journey around the world after selling his shares of the store to Tim. The trip opened his eyes to suffering and the general human condition and became a Utilitarian. Though he still had trouble expressing his emotions, he would be willing to sacrifice many personal things to improve the lives of people. In this regard, he became rather selfless.
By the time he had returned to London, Padril had drafted a novel and written several stories for the Daily Prophet concerning politics and the general human condition. His novel Golden Hearts concerned the War and took on a variety of different perspectives and, though it was popular with critics, was fairly unpopular in the market. He now writes for the Prophet full-time.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
Personality: Padril finds it difficult to express his emotions and is often seen as cold. Though he does feel as much as anyone else, he is fairly uncomfortable with telling people about himself. He is a utilitarian, which means he will do what he can to make as many people as happy as possible, or even to have as few people become as unhappy as possible. He sacrifices a lot to do what he enjoys and to help others, but can be taken advantage of in this regard.
He is extremely philosophical. Padril can often be found writing thoughts, staring at the clouds or simply talking aloud. His thoughts are both deep and profound, though he feels they are overused. He hates the state the world is in and does everything he can to help humanity. However, he is willing to sacrifice other people’s happiness for the general goal of improving happiness over a wider group. He often challenges himself here and is conflicted over where he draws the line.
He enjoys helping people but dislikes those who hurt others purposefully above all else. He constantly argues his opinion, but always believes violence can be avoided. He is careful to maintain neutral ground when concerning Wars and most politics.
Padril loves jokes. Practical, insulting or in good fun, he appreciates good wit. Sarcasm is his constant tool, and often when he cannot express an emotion properly, he uses a joke instead. This fosters most friends beliefs that he's incredibly inappropriate.
