Quidditch Captain Applications Only for the moment!!

Quidditch is starting up again in September and as on the old TWOM there will be two teams: Gryffindor-Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw-Slytherin.

Each team will have two captains (one from each house) who will captain the team together. The captain’s will decide who is on the team, will organise any training, and obviously will take part in any matches.

Captains are experienced players who have played quidditch before, and generally the Captains are good team players, and good leaders. Captains are normally 5th year or above, though there are some exceptions (Oliver Wood was Captain in his fourth year).

I think it may be a little bit too late/early to put up such an application. We are in the summer, and teams in the book do not even play their first match until October. People tend (in the past) sign up for Quidditch and than leave early. If we start applications now, we are bound to loose our players before we even get to start any matches.

Also, isn't this something that a staff member would usually put up? Do you have authorization to do such an act, or are you a staff member that is just using this profile?

There's a little under a month and a half until term starts, Juliet, and its only captains at this stage.

I think the first match is scheduled a little earlier than what would usually be done in canon (Louise is going away for a little while). Because the time between start of term and the first game is shortened, we want to give the most time possible for teams to practice and build relationships between players, so ideally, the whole teams will be assembled by the 1st of September.

These processes all take time and the majority of players will be chosen a little closer to the start of term. Mkay?

And Juliet, you'll also notice that non-staff cant usually post threads in this board. Louise is going to be flying instructor next year

Character’s experience at quidditch/flying:She's been flying since she was 8, when she made a broom fly when she was mad that it couldn't fly. After that she's been flying ever since, and when she has free time, she always plays Quidditch.
Why would your character make a good Captain?: She's a good leader and very persuasive. She's a very good listener and let's everyone give out their opinion, but after that she tries to make everyone see things from her point of view. But in a game she supports the players and wants to win no matter what.

Who all gets a say on who these captains are? Will it just be Louise or does the staff of the site help out with that? ^_^ jw

Alright, sorry for the interruption. I just strongly feel that we should at least pick members that have a certain amount of posts rather than just someone who is brand new on the site.

Name: Laura Kehoe

Position: Chaser

Character’s experience at quidditch/flying: Laura comes from a pureblood family and has been flying since she was a small child. She comes from a strong quidditch family, with her older brother, father and grandfather all being on the Slytherin house team. She got her first broom when she was ten and has been playing quidditch-Chaser mainly, ever since. Laura has been a Chaser on the Gryffindor house team for the last two years, never having tried out before then due to injuries.

Why would your character make a good Captain?: Laura is a very good quidditch player and has been on the team for a few years now. She is a good leader, and people generally listen to her. She is fair and doesn't believe in favoritism. She is also extremely determined, and pushes her team-mates to do the best they can.

Name: Timothy Crennent
Position: Chaser (not a bad Keeper, either)
Character’s experience at quidditch/flying: Tim has an extensive experience flying since a young age. For the past few years Tim has been working, with his brother, at the family store Crennent's Quality Quidditch Supplies, in Hogsmeade.
Why would your character make a good Captain?: Tim is definitely someone who takes his Quidditch seriously. He has pride in his own abilities and in his team, and is well motivated by failure. He will be honest with his team. Tim is a quick thinker with good foresight, which makes him a good strategist. His experience as a Prefect last year and in working at Crennent's proves his responsibility.

I know this is a long shot but theres no other Hufflepuff thats stepped forward yet.

Name: Lucy Chiang
Position: Seeker but can chase
Character’s experience at quidditch/flying: Lucy has loved quidditch ever since she was a little girl being taken to Chudley Cannon games by her late father. However she couldn't officially play until last year. She pushed hard for the joint teams seeker spot but no games got played.

Why would your character make a good Captain?:
Lucy is an extremely determined girl and although she's gone through a lot of trauma quidditch is one of the few things she can really sink her teeth into and forget her troubles for a little while.

She may be young compared with other players but she makes up for this lack of years with a burning desire for the game and a need to help others achieve their aims. She's quite mature as well and has the makings of a leader whose honest with people and would expect them to be as hard working as she was.

So any progress on Quidditch captains? By the way, won't we also need players? LOL! Maybe we should also start making a normal player sign up thread.

It doesn't look like we have enough willing captains this year, so for the time being at least, Quidditch is cancelled.

We might have another shot at it in a few months time if we feel that there's the support for it that there once was.
