(Here's a thread copy of our e-mail newsletter - some people have trouble viewing the newsletter, so I'm sticking it here for them, and for prosperity
You can also post feedback here as a reply. Thanks!
We've decided to continue the newsletter, at least for now, as it seems to be an effective way of getting all of our news across (and there seems to be WAY too much of it lately, summer is such a busy time!) to everyone. As always, your feedback and ideas are appreciated.
If you wish to unsubscribe, or are receiving this same e-mail more than once, you can find the solution to your problem at the footer of each e-mail.

HOUSE CUP + NEW SHOUTBOX!
The House Cup for the half-year of 2008 was officially finished on the 14th. If anybody missed the final scores, they were:
Ravenclaw - 75
Gryffindor - 45
Hufflepuff - 35
Slytherin - 5 (wtf? )
The tally-board has since been removed from its usual home in the welcome table on the right. As such, we were left with a small vacancy in our table. Of course, it couldn't just remain blank. After considering a few different options, I decided to go with the shoutbox. It's something that I've always said no to in the past but that a lot of people have wanted, and I found a nice one (www.shoutmix.com), so I'm willing to try it out. This is a TRIAL PERIOD that will last until term starts again (September 1st). Check it out and let us know what you think! If it should stay, we will either find a more permanent home for it or relocate the house points tally.
** MEMBER OF THE MONTH**
Congratulations to Juliet Lee, July's Member of the Month.
MINI-BANNER COMPETITION
In case you haven't seen yet, we are hosting a graphics competition to design an affiliate banner for WR. This is a GREAT way to help out with promoting the community as affiliates are something that we are looking at doing in the future, and it's an easy way for people to spread the forum. Plus, there are 100WRC up for grabs for the winner of each category - animated and non-animated. If this is the kind of thing that sounds like it would be up your alley, we would appreciate if you loaned us some of your talent. More info: hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=793
This is only the first of several competitions planned for the summer. Stay tuned.
**PRO-TIP**
Looking for something to do with your student character on their holidays? Why not create their home and do some role-play there? hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=wizardhomes
GRADUATION, CAREERS, NEW HOGWARTS LEADERS!
Earlier this week we went through and modified everybody's profile to update their custom titles for the new year. I don't know about you, but I'm feeling kind of nostalgic... they are all growing up so fast. I'm not even joking - when you've been roleplaying a character for ages it's the STRANGEST feeling, don't you think?
We have had a LOT of seventh years who have graduated into adulthood, and as such, these students need jobs!
I've done a COMPLETE OVERHAUL of the Careers and Jobs page. It's your very first stop, and if it doesn't itself contain all of the information that you need, it will tell you where to find it. We have established framework for the Healer and Auror programs, for any students who want to look down those paths, as well as all of the other careers that are best supported on WR. hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=11
Go take a look, former seventh years, and start your new adult roleplay experience.
On that page, there is also information on some part-time/low impact jobs (mostly retail) that may interest students looking to take Summer Jobs or those graduates who want some time off but also Independence. More jobs are going to be added to that section in the coming weeks.
This page also includes applications for new HOGWARTS POSITIONS - Professors, Prefects and Head Boy and Head Girl are all there and applications are OPEN NOW. Prefects from last year will need to re-apply, Professors need not worry unless I have contacted you personally.
As I said, there's a lot there, so if you are creating another character or taking a new direction with a current one be sure to take a look.
** THREAD SPOTLIGHT **
Who doesn't love new things? The thread spotlight is a planned recurring feature of the WR newsletter, where we highlight two or three quality threads each month, that, we hope, other members will appreciate. Some will just be good stories and good conflict, others may be important and related to the overall plot, and also from time to time, we will also do a few threads that have lots of potential for more people to join.
Jaden's Graduation Party - hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=aerins&action=display&thread=732&page=1 - Glamorous dance party. All over 17s are invited - this thread is still definitely going, so it's not too late to join.
Morsmordre - hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=knockturn&action=display&thread=752&page=1 - The attack marking the return of the Death Eaters to the public eye.
Wishin' - hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=pitch&action=display&thread=703&page=1 - One from the Hogwarts archives, two young Hufflepuff students jealously observe their older peers playing Quidditch above them. Never got finished due to archiving, but still a nice thread.
Jaden Aerins will be running this section in months to come (I've taken it this month). If you are involved in, or spotted a thread that you think others will enjoy reading then send her a message!
ARCHIVES
As it's the end of term, all of the past year's posts have since been moved to the Pensieve (archive boards) to make way for the next Hogwarts term starting Sept. 1st. All of your old links to any threads will still work, but posting has now been closed for the Hogwarts boards.
As decided by you guys by poll, the password-protected boards in the Hogwarts archives(the common rooms, staff room, and the Prefect's bathroom)have now had their passwords removed and are PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE. This means you sticky-beaks can now sleuth through all the hidden threads you never could before.
Things get particularly interesting in the Prefect's bathroom... I always thought it was funny that Harley and Jaden, once the perfect Hogwarts couple, were both prefects... *ahem* (Feel free to make fun of Jaden )
If you spot any problems with the archives, such as a board you can't see or one you can still post in, let me know and I'll patch it up right away.
New Passwords will be sent out via PM before term starts again.
** DIARY OF THE MONTH **
In a similar vein to the featured threads, we will be featuring a diary entry each month in the newsletter, hand-picked by Jaden.
Diary entries are a great part of the site - and the diary board is also fairly multipurpose. Entries can serve as your character's commentary on what is going on in their life (it can be hypothetical - lots of people don't actually keep a diary but instead just use it as a medium to express their character's thoughts) as a notepad, or scribblings that your character has done in their spare time that reflects their surroundings and mood without necessarily addressing and explaining it directly.
Also very common are history diaries, which tell the story of your characters before you started roleplaying them. These can be in the form of "old" diary entries, a pensieve, or just a straight out narrative or "fanfiction". A lot of Hogwarts students have told of the horrors of the war and the Battle of Hogwarts through their diaries.
This month's featured diary entry comes from Aguila Johnson.
hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=diaries&action=display&thread=675&page=1#12875
This third entry in Aguila's notepad reflects his mental angst, and addresses issues of racism and black stereotyping. A great look at the post-war, identity crisis Aguila.
QUIDDITCH
We're going to be introducing Quidditch to WR again this term. If successful, Quidditch can provide some great roleplay opportunities, but we're going to need the support of members. We will be using similar rulesets to those shown on the old site, and adopting the two-team basis again.
Captain applications for next term have already begun! Visit this thread to apply: hpredefined.proboards100.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=815
That's all for now,
- James
