Appearance: 5’6 or 168cm in height. She is very skinny and dainty, only eats what she requires. Long, jutting limbs; pale, flawless skin reflects the minimal amount of time she spends outdoors; holds herself with an air of sophistication, elegance, and pride. Her eyes are the most outstanding of her features as they are rather large and a dark brown contrasting to her skin giving her an almost fantasy like appearance. She also requires the assistance of reading glasses. She has waist length; blonde hair, usually left down and only tied up when studying or on a broomstick, that is if she was ever caught on one. She likes to keep her appearance simplistic and isn’t one to ordain herself in many accessories. Keeps it simple and classic.

Her usual attire is very simple but expensive consisting mainly of soft blouses and shirts, and flat base shoes. Considering her magical upbringing, her muggle attire does resemble more the robes that wizards/witches wear, hence the dresses and flowing outfits. It isn't often though that she is seen wearing muggle clothing, but rather variations of muggle inspired wizarding robes and clothes.

History: Born in Salisbury, Wiltshire, South West England at the Cott Manor by a mid-wife she grew up being surrounded by nannies and her mother, only seeing her father occasionally and usually not for long periods of time. She also spent time with her grandparents, alternating between families during the different holidays and special occasions.

From a young age was always found playing alone in the shadow of the groves of tree’s surrounding the house as well as inside in her play room keeping to herself most of the day. She didn’t have much interaction with children her own age, as she was home schooled, except for the children of her fathers work colleagues. Her father didn’t allow her to attend the country club often as he didn’t like the idea of not knowing who his daughter was interacting with, he wasn’t fond of those with new money, and didn’t think his family should be either. Amethyst had no objections with this as she didn’t know any better but even when she was allowed to play with the other children she displayed anti-social behaviour, not being used to sharing things with other children and not knowing how to interact with them either causing her to be a complete brat. She did come to be obsessive about staying clean, mainly from dirt, after her parents divorce because of her grandmother's own pedantic habits. It ended her trips outside playing in the groves of trees on the estate and making threats to make her sleep outside especially effective.

Her first magical experience was when she was two. Her mother was dressing her up for one of her father’s social functions but the dress that her mother had picked out wasn’t to Amethyst’s taste. She cried and whinged, chucking a huge tantrum making it very difficult for her mother to put on the dress but managing eventually. When her mother turned around to get some ribbons for Amethyst’s hair she heard Amethyst’s laugh behind her. Turning around she saw her running out of the room and down the hallway naked and the dress levitating in the air.

Despite those parts of her personality that were less than pleasant, she was influenced by her mother who was almost the complete opposite of Amethyst’s father. Her mother taught her about etiquette and how to be a lady and sociable and agreeable among people, as well as some of her more humane emotions. Her father on the other hand, though hardly around, influenced her quite a bit indirectly. She admired his high place in society and his successfulness. Because of her materialistic tendencies she thought highly of her father and took him on as a role model.

For her whole life, Amethyst led a very luxurious and easy life; despite the limited social interaction and affectionate behaviour. She was a fairly happy, cheerful child and did love her parents and family. So, when her mother left them when she was 9 years old, Amethyst was hurt and felt abandoned but channeled this energy into resentment of her mother as well as the defensive façade she shows in public. These feelings she has locked up inside partly contribute to her lack of conscience in some of the things she does and the way she treats certain people. Her grandmother on her fathers side took it upon herself to be the female figure in Amethyst’s life and visited the house on a regular basis. She taught her skills such as french, embroidery, and the piano but also imposed upon Amethyst her own beliefs, ideas and morals, including her interest in the dark arts and teachings of the Deatheaters whom she had regarded highly and still believe able to come back one of these days. Her father also began to work more from home since her mother left but this didn’t show any differences in their lifestyle considering he probably spends less time with her now than he did before, isolating himself in his library.

Since starting at Hogwarts she has shown her growing independence and less reliance on the support of her family meaning she has been able to an extent form her own opinions. Though her time is still mainly spent in her own company at home, there has been an increase in her own social outings as she has discovered some of the benefits of not being alone, such as making it easier for her to ignore the denial she is in with her family situation, relationships, and personal struggle.

In her first year in Hogwarts she was armed with her new wand and a brand new pet Little owl (Athene Noctua) named, Toan, who would prove to be a faithful companion for years to come. She approached the school hoping that she would be in Slytherin, not only because she displays many traits associate with them or that she had already read about the history behind them but because her father had wished her to be in the house; the gesture was the first sign of interest in the school by her father since she received the letter. Upon starting at Hogwarts she was at first not used to the many students being in one place and struggled to keep her cool around people, feeling socially awkward, resulting in anti-social behaviour. She went through the classes getting used to the structured days and teachings and forming opinions on what she liked and what she would rather pass on. Her first year was mostly uneventful and didn’t bring many achievements in friends or anything outstanding in her studies. It was near the end of the school year that things began to change for the “better” for her. She managed to get into an argument with a person in another house and resulted in spilling hot soup over them and a week’s worth detention. From then on she wasn’t as liked by students in other houses but in her own house of Slytherin she was much more comfortable and began to slide back into her former behaviour before Hogwarts.

It wasn't until her third year at Hogwarts that things became much easier and controlled for her. She had found a balance between her school and social activities and gave herself more time to fully ease back into her ways before Hogwarts without interruption. She managed to do pleasantly well in her “important” subjects and took part in a few other non-school related activities in the shadows, as she likes it, but still landing herself a couple of detentions; most to do with unknown, unsuspecting victims. Her third year created a basis for her to ease into her fourth year and start becoming comfortable in herself and taking on that feeling of invincibility that most teenagers have.

So, she continued on with her schooling, doing well in classes to prove that she could, and making "friends" and enemies along the way. Up to now, her allegiance would have been guaranteed to be with the darkside by anyone who knew her but it wasn't until the war broke out that she would be tested. Being pureblooded and coming from a family who had a history of followers of Voldemort, her family wasn't too much at risk of being harmed. While all the discrimination and horrors were going on, Amethyst could only watch. She would never admit it, but it wasn't easy for her to see people suffering at this magnitude; but the acceptance of her father was too important to her to throw away when compared to sticking up for another student. During those DADA classes, she was called upon to perform spells that would torture and cause much pain to other students; on the outside she was an emotionless soul having had much practice with hiding her emotions. On the inside, though, she could feel her insides tighten and squirm, throwing up in the girls bathroom after many lessons. She is not proud of what she did, but she isn't ashamed either as she truly believed it was what she had to do to gain approval. She was one of those Slytherins that walked out of the Great Hall when the battle took place, but she mostly tried to stay out of the fray, only stunning people if things became too much around her to protect herself.

Now in the present, back at Hogwarts, of course she'd always be one of those who 'turned their back on everyone', but through those dark times she learnt a little bit of empathy. She finds it much easier for her to take on the persona of the unlikeable, cold, insensitive, snobbish Slytherin that other students seem to pin on her, but then again it's not much of a change compared to how she was seen before the war.

Family History: The Cott family goes back generations of wealthy, pureblooded, ancestry originally from France but some have intermarried with other ethnicities and now reside around the world. Though no one truly wants to remember how they received their wealth (a family of thieves) they do have a history of producing witches and wizards particularly interested in the dark arts. If you look far enough you will see a history of not only successful entrepreneurs but also prostitutes, small business owners, housewives, but these relations are rarely talked about among the wealthier of the family.

The Asterud family, on the other hand have a long line of farmers in the family but it wasn’t until a great uncle took the profits from the farm and invested the money elsewhere that they began to gain themselves a reputation. Not long after their increase in wealth, they began to associate with the Cott family, at first only producing their silk materials and cotton fabrics, but soon becoming family friends and still are till this day although a slight tension has come between the two families since the divorce of Amethyst’s parents.


---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---


Personality: She generally perceives herself as superior to others especially, being very proud of her lineage or the parts she acknowledges, and because of this only "befriends" those worthy of her company, or because she thinks they may be of used to her, or she somehow discovers a slight fondness. She is often described as elegant, cold, unemotional, and spoiled, but do not call her a princess or she will more than likely raise her wand at you. Though her personality may not suggest it she does have a sense of humour, at times sarcastic, but a sense of humour nonetheless. Although, if the subject of something passionate to her is brought up or a prank is being pulled on her she may not be laughing. Most of the time she will appear neutral on most subjects, keeping any formed opinions to herself, unless, she wants to devulge them.

She is not the shy type and can be quite talkative and relaxed if just a little stuck up and moody; she'll even whip out her sexual prowess if she has to. It is more likely for her to be more forthcoming in smaller groups, whereas she is quite happy to sit back and observe in larger company. Even so, the best way to get a sense of whats on her mind is through her actions and body language than what she says. Her walls and anti-social demeanour at times may make her appear snobbish, which she is but not to the extent she used to be due to her slightly changed lifestyle and adaptation to her environment. Not having her mother to hide behind now and being able to interact more with people while at Hogwarts has taught her to be more sociable. She is able to adapt to most situations unless she doesn’t want to because of her controlling nature.

She is ambitious in her endeavours, sometimes to the point of obsession, and doesn’t display humility or restraint in her methods of getting what she wants. Especially if it will gain her father's attention or approval; the one thing she craves above most things. Loyalty is not a strong attribute of her personality believing more in doing everything possible, even betray, when wanting something enough because everything she does is for her own gain only. She much more prefers to observe and take in situations than take part in them. She is not naturally intelligent, as her mother is but, because of her ambitiousness she drives herself to be studious and do well in most subjects.

Not one to care what others think of her she does enjoy playing games with peoples minds but rarely found participating in highly physical or outdoor sports including Quidditch. She only really relies on herself but isn’t totally independent, liking the company of others more than being by herself when her mind is surely to drift to places she would rather not visit; this is why she'll make that extra effort to have some companions. This reflects her hidden insecurities in life contributing to her cold exterior, though she may not realize or acknowledge it, the lack of people in her life does affect her emotionally and she has the hidden desire to just be like everybody else. The start of these insecurities began when her mother left, and even though her father was not very active in her life before this, the absence of one parent has made this fact even more obvious to her. This was the start of her trust and abandonment issues that prevent her from becoming close and open to people. Her hidden desires pretty much effect all her actions and fuels her high jealous streak that will cause her to lash out at the person these feelings stemmed from, and for example, resulting in all her past failed relationships that all have ended messily so far. Her need to be accepted also started with her mother's leaving, resulting in her need to always be clean and neat.
Likes: Feeling like she's part of a group, embroidery; playing piano; being sure of herself; suppressing memories; having things neat and ordered; reading; getting what she likes;
Dislikes: Flying, she much rather have her feet stable on the ground; chess, despite her logical thinking she still can't like the dragging on of the game; dirt; uncertainty/indecisiveness; people who dawdle; being made a fool of; having attention put on her unwillingly;
Habits: A very clean and neat person. She has a habit of straightening out her clothes of creases and unintentional folds. Borderline OCD, with her constant need to stay clean, stemmed from her low self esteem issues. She doesn't like to be touched and won't usually touch another person unless necessary. She has a great posture that she carry's whether she is walking, standing or sitting resulted from her upbringing.

One thing I noticed, not really an error, but that I'd like to see mentioned:
