[[My apologies to Alicia that this has gone unpublished for so long. Thanks for your great contribution. Article has been published as was submitted, formatting and all, enjoy.]]
Today, many wizards were shocked at the Choir competition in Surrey, England. This competition goes back since 1889. But never, in those 119 years, has it ever faced such a scandal.
The winning group, Merry Thyme Chorus, was comprised, entirely, of house elves. Outraged, many called for their withdrawal. So the prize went to Le Choeur d'Enfants, a French group made of 10-year-olds.
“It’s an outrage! Many of us are wondering how the f*** fourteen house elves got here. Even more so, how did they win?!” said one angry group manager.
Not everyone think like this.
“This is terrible,” said Hermione Granger, a activist for elf rights, “They’re being discriminated! They sang beautifully, much better than those kids! Who cares what they are? They’re beings, just like you and me!”
Here’s an interview with Gyro, the leader of Merry Thyme.
Alicia: “Many people are wondering if you’re free or not. Are you?”
Gyro: “Yes, miss. We all are. I do miss being in Hogwarts, though. Five of us were Hogwarts elves. Another five hail from Edinburgh. Four are Irish… Our masters are so kind! Master! We miss you!” *Breaks down sobbing*
Alicia: “How do you feel that Le Choeur d'Enfants won what was rightfully ours?”
Gyro: “I really don’t care. The Irish ones, curse their fiery hearts, all want to shout at the humans for quite a bit. They forget how superior you all are from us. But it was a disappointment, yes.”
The other members of the group were unavailable for comment.
This has deeply moved me. House elves should not be discriminated like this. As Miss Granger said, ‘They are beings, just like we are.’ We should do something! Furthermore, they shoudn't think of themselves as lowly servants, especially when they are free.
