The Grogan Stump Auror Training Institute was named after the highly popular Minister for Magic Grogan Stump (1811 - 1819).
It is comprised of living quarters (in the form of dorm blocks, eating halls, etc.), classrooms (not unlike those at Hogwarts), and a wide array of multi-purpose buildings and outdoor areas (used for training and testing of the many skills required to pass Auror training).
Potential Aurors partake in a 3-year course, with stringent training and character and aptitude tests. Aside from dueling and related skills, Aurors study such disciplines as Stealth and Tracking, Concealment and Disguise, Coercion and Investigative Skills, Creature Defense and Utilisation, Magical Law (pertaining to their work), Leadership and Synergy, Property and Object Enchantments, Medimagic (field Healing, similar to first aid), and more.
The campus' facilities reflect this, ranging from rugged mountain terrain to mock Muggle village layouts to isolated areas where Aurors are taught to fight Giants, Dragons, and Dementors.
The Auror training experience is strenuous and challenging, ensuring only the best Aurors get through. It is also surprising and exciting - Aurors exposed to numerous magical and physical sensations on a regular basis.
It isn't all tough love, however - the majority of the instructors are supportive provided you put the work in. Trainees compete in dueling classes, drawn out "war games" and sporadic challenges similar to those in the Triwizard Tournament; they tend to drive off each others success and determination. There is a strong sense of comradery among the majority of the trainees - the most elite of which end up working together for the Ministry.
