Full Name: Fayre Diana Thackary Cruz
(Fayre is pronounced like "Fire".)
Date of Birth: April 6, 1978
Place of Birth: Brighton, England
Gender: Female
Race: Human Witch
Appearance:
Occupation: Healer (Pending)
---BACKGROUND---
Heritage: Muggle-born
Family: Parents - David and Georgia Thackary (deceased)
Husband - Zephyr Cruz
History: Fayre was born in Brighton, England, an only child due to her extremely successful - and therefore busy - parents, both of whom were lawyers. They lived in Brighton until Fayre was three, and then moved to London where her parents opened a new law firm. There was always plenty of money in the Thackeray household, but not much love. Fayre was raised more by her nanny than anyone else, and as a child she often mistakenly thought that her nanny was her mother.
Fayre was a quiet child, spending most of her time indoors reading, writing, or drawing in her sketchbook. She did well in primer school, becoming something of a 'teacher's pet'; even before she knew she was a witch the medical profession fascinated her, and as a seven-year-old, she knew she wanted to be a doctor. She frequently performed "experiments" on her dolls, treating them as patients, which caused no end of trouble with her nanny when she was found out.
There was always little things that Fayre was able to do that she could not explain, and which she never told anyone about. Even if her parents had been around more, and she'd had any sort of real relationship with them, she somehow instinctively knew that the things she was doing would upset them. It was nothing bad, or dangerous - just different. And she knew her parents hated for her to be different. She was able to turn taps and lightswitches on and off at will, something she got endless fun out of. Once, at the kitchen table, she was able to stop a glass of milk from spilling over when she accidentally tipped it too far. And to her surprise and delight, she discovered that she was able to regrow the hair on her favorite doll's head when she cut it off in a fit of rage one day, only to bitterly regret her decision.
So life went on happily enough for Fayre; she spent her days alone except for her nanny; even in school she did not make friends easily, and her parents did not like her having friends over when they were out - which was often. It was not that they did not trust Fayre's nanny; they simply thought that Fayre was not old enough to have friends in their home that they had not met, and approved for their daughter. And as they were almost never home, there was never any time to meet potential playmates for their daughter.
Things changed for Fayre when, at age 11, a stranger in purple robes with a splendid silver beard knocked on the door one evening and announced to the entire family that Fayre was a witch. What followed was a lengthy conversation in which her parents argued with Professor Dumbledore and tried to convince him that their little girl couldn't possibly be a witch. It was then that Fayre showed her parents her trick with the lightswitch and the tap. Dumbledore then produced Fayre's Hogwarts letter, and left the family to think about whether or not they wanted to send Fayre to Hogwarts.
Fayre pleaded desperately; she wanted to learn magic in the worst way. Her parents were unsure; they both wanted Fayre to attend a Muggle University, and become a doctor. Eventually however, they gave in, being guilted into it by Fayre, and sent her to Diagon Alley with her nanny.
Fayre was sorted into Hufflepuff and did extremely well at Hogwarts, quickly becoming something of a "teacher's pet" like she had in primer school. Due to her extreme shyness and the fact that she'd never really had friends as a child, it was difficult for her to make friends, but she did her best. When she was in sixth year, she joined the Dueling Club, and her very first duel was against a Slytherin boy named Zephyr Cruz, a boy very well-known for hating Muggle-borns. Determined to show this arrogant jackass just what she thought of him, Fayre used every spell in her arsenal and beat him soundly in the duel. To her surprise, afterwards, Zephyr came over to her and asked her on a date. Although Fayre was more than a little suspicious about this abrupt about-face, Zephyr seemed sincere; and since he was the most good-looking boy in their year and Fayre had always secretly had a tiny crush on him, she agreed.
Zephyr turned out to be a complete darling, however; they spent every waking moment together for weeks, and Fayre found herself falling hopelessly in love with him. One night however, as she made a passing comment about being a Muggle-born, Zephyr grew shocked and slightly angry. It turned out he hadn't know she was a Muggle-born, and he accused her of lying to him. They had a fight, and Zephyr stormed off leaving Fayre in tears. She swore never to speak to him again, but it did not last long. The very next day Zephyr surprised her outside of Potions class with a bouquet of yellow lilies - her favorite flower - and told her that he didn't care that she was a Muggle-born, and that he loved her for who she was. She promptly forgave him, and then and there Zephyr Cruz stopped being an arrogant jackass Slytherin and started standing up for Muggle-borns.
They stayed together for the rest of their Hogwarts days, and Zephyr proposed to Fayre Christmas of their seventh year. They were married the summer after graduation and settled down in Tinworth, near Zephyr's family. Fayre loved Zephyr's family almost more than she loved her own; being an only child, she'd never experienced the sibling dynamic, and Zephyr's two sisters quickly became some of Fayre's best friends, while Favian was Zephyr's best man at their wedding. Zephyr's grandparents, however, were completely anti-Muggle and disowned Zephyr when they heard that he was marrying Fayre. To this day, Fayre has never met them.
Fayre was gladly accepted into the Healer Trainee program after graduation, having been Head Girl her last year. She excelled at the program and graduated at the top of her class. It was the proudest moment of her life when she was handed her lime-green Healer's robes.
Fayre worked as a Healer for several years, quickly gaining a reputation for her skillful work and becoming quite popular in certain magical circles. After her internship was complete, she decided to specialize in spell damage, where she does very well; she is considered something of an expert in her field.
Although Zephyr and Fayre both wanted a large family, it turned out that it was not in the cards for them. Fayre was infertile. They discussed adoption, but ultimately decided against it; it was very rare to find a magical child up for adoption, and although they were not anti-Muggle in any way, they did not want to raise Muggle children; they felt it would be unfair to the child to be raised in a world that they could never be a part of. Also, Zephyr joked, his grandparents would all have heart attacks if they ever adopted.
When Voldemort took over the Ministry, Fayre knew it was only a matter of time before she would be called before the Muggle-born Registration Committee. She and Zephyr both decided that it would be a good idea to go into hiding for a while. Fayre had a great-aunt who lived in Canada, and so she and Zephyr lived with her in Toronto, Ontario, for a year while Voldemort reigned supreme in Britain. After his downfall, they moved back to England and had a joyful reunion with Zephyr's family; they had been relatively safe due to their Pure-blood status. Fayre's parents, it was learned, had been killed in a Death Eater attack on downtown London. Fayre returned to her job at St. Mungo's heartbroken and determined to become the best Healer in all of England, if for no other reason than to make her parents proud.
When Zephyr was appointed the position of Potions Professor, Fayre was admittedly a little shocked - Zephyr had never been too keen on school, barely scraping by with passing marks in most of his classes, although of course he had always done incredibly well in Potions. Still, she loved her husband and wanted to support him, and so moved with him to Hogsmeade, where they live to this day. Fayre is currently doing research on brain damage caused by spellwork at St. Mungo's.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
Personality: She's very refined and lady-like, a bit quiet and "bookish". She would rather stay at home with a good book and a glass of wine than do anything else. She is very smart, very cultured, and can be rather snobbish sometimes. She has what Zephyr jokingly calls "Only-Child syndrome"; which leads her to be somewhat selfish at times. She is a very loving person, however, and finds working as a Healer to be the most rewarding thing in her life. She's a bit OCD about keeping things clean, and her house, office, and anywhere else she spends a fair amount of time is always kept in impeccable order. She loves to cook and whenever she's not working or reading a book, she's experimenting in her kitchen.
Likes: Good books, classical music, fine wines, her pets, keeping things clean, cooking, wine-tasting
Dislikes: Bad manners, angry people, shrimp, bugs, mice and rats, messiness, dirt, clutter
Habits: She'll almost always read a book before going to bed, and perhaps a glass of wine.
Does your character like Quidditch? She attempts to get into it for Zephyr's sake, but honestly she couldn't care less.
---ABILITIES---
Strengths: She's very smart and is very good with patients. She's excellent at maintaining order and keeping everything and everyone calm and under control.
Weaknesses: Her Healer magic is very strong, but at the expense of other areas of magic; although she was a formidable dueller at Hogwarts, her offensive and defensive magic has gone sadly downhill as she has neglected to practice or maintain her abilities.
Powers: Just that she's a great Healer.
---OTHER---
Pets: A German Shepherd named Diesel, a Beagle named Winchester, and a Lab/Chow cross named Lacey - and four cats - Loki, Kitchu, Tequila, and Bootstrap. Also a barn owl named Tennyson.
Wand: Dragon Heartstring and Oak, 12 inches.
Broomstick: None.
Which Hogwarts house would you NOT like to be in?: I would like her to have been a HUFFLEPUFF. Please.
