Excuse me if this is something of a stupid question, but it's been bugging me for a while now and I was just wondering if anyone else has any ideas. Okay well, when Voldemort "died" the first time, when Harry was a baby, did everyone's Dark Marks go away? I mean, maybe not completely, but they must have faded or something, because you recall in Book 4 Snape saying to Dumbledore, "It's been growing clearer all year..." which implies that they went away to some degree. So I'm wondering, now that Voldemort's dead, if all of the Death Eater's Dark Marks have vanished completely as the soul that they were all connected to no longer exists, or if they've just all gotten really faint and no longer do anything if you touch them. Thoughts?

Bloomsbury live chat not long after DH: Finchburg: Does the dark mark remain on those that voldemort has branded after his death or does the tattoo dissapear now he is gone thanks for considering my question! J.K. Rowling: My pleasure, Finchburg! The Dark Mark would fade to a scar, not dissimilar to the lightning scar on Harry's forehead. J.K. Rowling: Like Harry's, these scars would no longer burn or hurt. Though I guess on WR having a genuine dark mark is still a status symbol of sorts. By custom title, Death Eaters are supposed to have the tattoo and "Loyal Follower" or "Juliet Lee's Follower" etc. are non-Death Eaters who support the cause.

Juliet has assigned a special item to gather her Loyal Followers. Known as The Medallion, this golden coin summons those who are loyal to her who wish to talk about future plans etc. The Medallion looks much like a regular galleon but with a snake bordering the edges of the coin. This would make it very hard for others to notice that that specific coin has a very good reason for it.
For the first time Voldemort died the dark mark seemed to have dissapeared (or become invisible like) as shown in the movies. However, it seemed to have come back when Voldemort filly gained health and began to summon the Death Eaters around the Area.
To me, I believe that the Dark Mark is something that is only seen when you are either close to Voldemrot (like Petter P.) Or when you are being summoned. However, not much else can be explained without Rowling having a say in it.
