History: To understand Brigitte, one must first know her ancestry. Brigitte is, as she enjoys telling people, directly descended on her Father's side from Maximilien François Marie Isidore de Robespierre, well-known throughout Muggle history as the ringleader of the 'Reign of Terror' in 1783 and 1784. Robespierre was a Wizard with strong anti-Muggle convictions; he secretly had dreams of overthrowing the French aristocracy and making France the first country to be ruled directly by Wizards. He charmed and confunded his way high up into the French government, eventually becoming the head of the Committe of Public Safety. He used his power to have nearly 50,000 French Muggles executed, including many former nobles such as Marie-Antoinette, Philippe Égalité and Madame Roland, as well as many others, such as "the father of modern chemistry" Antoine Lavoisier. His goal was to suppress the Muggle population through fear to the point where he could take over the seat of government and forcefully inflict wizarding rule upon the world.
His plans came to an abrupt halt, however, when he was thrown from his seat of power in July of 1783, and was sentenced to the guillotine himself. Of course, being a wizard, Robespierre was able to get out of this predicament by Imperiusing one of the men who had worked under him, and forcing him to take Polyjuice Potion. This man was then guillotined, and everyone believed Robespierre to be dead.
Robespierre himself retired to the French countryside, close to Marseille, where he built an elaborate and almost disgustingly lavish mansion. To avoid suspicion, he changed his name to Pierre Deneuve, and continued to pass on his anti-Muggle convictions to his children and grandchildren, of whom the first-born male was always named Pierre. So although Robespierre never achieved his dreams of glory, he created a lasting legacy of which he would have been proud.
Brigitte grew up surrounded by everything that money could buy, in the same mansion that Robespierre had built when he first moved to Marseille in 1783. It had been passed down from male heir to male heir on down the line until it came into the possession of Brigitte's father. Although Brigitte's parents did not work, they were able to afford a lavish lifestyle due to the "family money" - Robespierre had been almost disgustingly rich, a millionaire many times over (having usurped large parts of the French treasury while in power) and had deposited his money into a Gringotts vault where he, and his subsequent generations, were able to live most comfortably off of the interest, which on average totaled 9000 Galleons a day.* She and her siblings were kept secluded mainly on the mansion's grounds, rarely allowed to venture into Marseilles due to the fact that their father did not want them to "mingle with those filthy Muggles."
When Brigitte was five years old, her parents hired a tutor for her (a Pure-blooded Wizard, of course) to instruct her in magical theory and history. Of course, Brigitte was not allowed to use a wand, but by the time she was old enough to attend Beauxbatons she knew the theory behind many different spells and potions, as well as vast amounts of wizarding history, and as such quickly jumped to the head of the class, where she stayed for the majority of her school days. Once she was old enough to attend school, her father arranged for private Occlumency and Animagus lessons, which she took during her summer vacations. He wanted her to have these skills because in his mind it wasn't enough to have the name Deneuve, you had to live up to it. And being an "ordinary" witch, or - god forbid! - having a Muggle-born witch or wizard perform magic better than her was unacceptable in his mind. He wanted her to be able to do all these impressive things so that she wouldn't ever have to be second-best to a Mudblood. By the time she graduated, Brigitte was a fairly capable Occlumens and a Panther Animagus. Not being British, Brigitte did not have to register with the Ministry of Magic and as such is technically an illegal Animagus.
Brigitte did not make very many friends at Beauxbatons; she looked down her nose at many of the students for most of them were, at best, half-bloods. Even if they had been Pure-bloods, Brigitte herself was not a very "friendly" person - she was very difficult to get along with due to her supremely high opinion of herself (her father had taught her that to be a Deneuve practically made her royalty) and she carried herself with such an air of superiority that most people loathed her on sight - although of course, fearing her legendary skill with a wand, few dared cross her. Even her siblings, while attending Beauxbatons with her, found little use for her and did their best to stay out of her way.
She graduated at seventeen with High Honors (the equivalent to an 'O' at Hogwarts) in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Dueling - a seventh year elective taught only to those who had received High Honors on their Defense Against the Dark Arts sixth year exams. Upon graduating in 1995, Brigitte made her way to England where rumors of the Dark Lord - who had been vanquished by the infant Harry Potter when Brigitte was 12 - abounded, in the hopes of learning the Dark Arts from other like-minded individuals. She grew close to Lucius Malfoy and his family, with whom she was distantly related on her mother's side (their grandmothers were third cousins, or something like that.)
Brigitte maintained a rather flamboyant lifestyle in Britain due to a trust fund that her father had set up for her, as he had with all of his children. Not needing to work, she spent her days lounging around, spending money on the highest-priced wizarding fashions around and living in a ridiculously expensive penthouse suite in London. She threw money around like it was going out of style, never bothering to check her bills - she would just sign things off and forget about them, knowing that she would never have to worry about running out of money. Her parents, believing that she was studying Dark Magic, continued to send her money, never realizing that she was in reality lounging about doing nothing (or almost nothing - she really was studying Dark Magic, but not nearly as seriously as her parents believed.). If they had known the truth about her lifestyle, they would probably have been furious, and forced her to come home, or at the very least, cut off her funds.
A family crisis drew her back to France in 2003 however, when Brigitte's sister Marietta announced that she was pregnant with the child of a Mudblood - a poor French boy whom she had attended Beauxbatons with. Shocked and furious, Pierre and Catherine told Marietta that they would be willing to forget the entire incident and forgive Marietta if she were willing to get rid of the child. Brigitte herself was disgusted with her Marietta and swore that she would never again consider her to be a sister after her filthy behavior. Marietta refused to have an abortion, however, and took off to be (presumably) married to her Mudblood. No one in Brigitte's family has ever spoken her name since. Brigitte therefore has a twelve-year-old niece or nephew somewhere in France; she has sworn that if she ever finds her sister she will kill her for betraying their family. It's all black and white in Brigitte's book - there are things that are allowed, and there are things that aren't. And marrying a Mudblood, having his child, and disgracing your family - well that's just unforgivable.
After the incident with Marietta, Brigitte returned to England and continued her exorbitant lifestyle, when a year later the Dark Lord made his return to power. Urged by Lucius Malfoy, Brigitte joined his ranks and became one of his most devoted followers, overjoyed to find such a strong wizard who shared her most deeply-rooted beliefs that Muggles and Mudbloods needed to be stamped out. Voldemort had her placed inside the Ministry as a spy, working in the Department of International Magical Co-Operation as a French dignitary, where she fed him intelligence on the doings of the international wizarding community. She had secret dreams of Voldemort taking over France and giving the power to her and her family - to be ruled in the Dark Lord's name, of course. During this time, Bellatrix Lestrange became something of a mentor to Brigitte, and she learned much under Bellatrix's tutelage. Brigitte admired her greatly, and did everything she could to be just like her.
Once Voldemort moved into the open, Brigitte began to revel in her newfound power. She took a field position for the Muggle-Born Registration Committee and began to hunt down Mudbloods who had refused to present themselves before the Ministry, often torturing her unfortunate victims into madness or killing them outright. No one particularly cared that she dealt with the Mudbloods so violently however, and Bellatrix in particular applauded her ruthlessness. She continued her marauding about Britain and even journeyed occasionally back into Northern France and Germany to track down Mudbloods who had tried to escape by leaving the country.
Everything came crashing down around her ears when Voldemort was killed by Harry Potter in 2007. When Bellatrix was killed, it was probably the only time in Brigitte's life when she genuinely grieved for anyone. She was on an assignment in Berlin tracking down a family of Mudbloods when the Battle of Hogwarts took place; although she set out immediately when she found out what was going on, she did not arrive until several hours after the Battle had ended. She fled back to France, where the British Ministry had no jurisdiction over her, and laid low at her home in Marseille. A few months later, she was contacted by Juliet Lee, who was looking to gather support and re-start the Death Eaters. Brigitte signed on enthusiastically and returned to England under a false identity. Things were going well, and it seemed that the Death Eaters were on the verge of taking over once again, when things went horribly awry one night in Hogsmeade. The Headmaster of Hogwarts, Hunter Evans, was caught and killed, and the Death Eaters in a frenzy of euphoria, paraded his dead body around the streets and lit several homes on fire. Their victory was short-lived however, when Ministry officials arrived on the scene and nearly everyone was arrested, including Brigitte.
They were all carted off to Azkaban, waiting for the day when Jakob would break them out. Brigitte had reluctantly agreed not to reveal his identity during the Hogsmeade arrests only on the condition that he would have them all out of Azkaban as soon as possible. But Brigitte's tenure in the prison, although relatively short, destroyed her. Any shred of decency left in her - which granted, wasn't much - died there, and she became as soulless and evil as any Dementor. When she was finally broken free, she quickly gained a reputation as one of the most ruthless and bloodthirsty Death Eaters in Britain. Like everyone else, her wand had been confiscated when she was arrested, so she had to steal other wands off of her unfortunate victims. It became something of a game for Brigitte, who would "test" out the wands of her victims on them while they were still alive, torturing them needlessly in order to see if their wands worked well for her. She went through about a dozen wands before finding one that suited her, its original owner being a Muggle-born witch who had given herself to the Death Eaters in exchange for the release of her daughter, who had been kidnapped by Brigitte some weeks earlier in the hopes of receiving a large ransom. Of course, Brigitte did not release the girl, and eventually killed her with her own mother's wand.
Shortly after this, Brigitte's father fell ill and died, leaving the Deneuve Manor to Brigitte's older brother, Pierre the Ninth. It was revealed that their father had squandered nearly all of the family's money, and they could barely afford to keep their home. All of their expensive things were sold to pay off their father's enormous debt, and Brigitte's trust fund was cut off, leaving her destitute. It was very difficult for Brigitte, who was used to something of an extravagant lifestyle, and she has had problems adjusting to her newfound pennilessness. So although Brigitte's brother has retained the manor, it lies empty and the Deneuves live a penniless existence, reliving the days of their past with bitterness and hatred.
When Revan Haine, the vampire, began hunting down Death Eaters, Brigitte panicked. She didn't know how he was finding them, but she knew that it would be catastrophic if she were to be caught. She abandoned her hideout and took a new one, not breathing a word of her whereabouts to another soul - she was sure that one of the Death Eaters must have been an informant. And in any case, she knew that if she were approached and offered amnesty in exchange for information on the other Death Eater's whereabouts, she would have been happy to betray them - so why would any of the other Death Eater's think differently? So she laid low, and didn't tell anyone anything about herself that could lead to her capture. Secretly, she hates Revan and if the opportunity were ever to arise, she would delight in taking him down. She realizes the stupidity of admitting to this however, and has not breathed a single insinuation of how she truly feels about the vampire to anyone - she has never even said it aloud to herself, always fearing that someone will overhear her and it will get back to Revan. (Obviously, most of the Death Eaters hate Revan now - but Brigitte knows that if she's ever to get a shot at taking him down, it's best to keep her mouth shut. Besides, she knows that if it ever comes down to it, she can completely deny any hostility towards him if she's been known to never say a word against him.)
So Brigitte is currently part of Juliet Lee's gang, biding her time until she is able to strike at Revan.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
Personality: Brigitee is tough and opinionated - a leader, not a follower. She never does anything without demanding that she receive something in return, and she's just about always got an ulterior motive. She's selfish, rude, and domineering, and makes no excuses about who she is or what she wants. She can hold a grudge for years, so if you piss her off, prepare yourself for her vengeance. She can easily intimidate. You will do things her way. She refuses to listen to the opinions of others, believing that she knows best. She becomes almost a dominatrix at times, one with a terrible temper if you happen to cross or go against her. And if you fall out of favor with her, she will make sure you are abandoned.
She's extremely paranoid - she trusts no one, believing that everyone else has ulterior motives just like her. It has never occurred to her that anyone would do something for someone else just out of the goodness of their heart, and she would not understand such a gesture if someone did such for her.
She's an excellent actress and a liar, and has excellent persuasive skills. Being very attractive, she has no problems with using sexuality to get men to do what she wants. She considers just about everyone to be a puppet and she loves pulling the strings. She's always in control - but it's a backseat kind of control. She likes to hide behind a public figure, a famous face, letting them take all the credit but also allowing them to take all the blame should things go awry.
Her ultimate goal is to have wizards ruling France as her ancestors wanted, and to remove the tarnish from Robespierre's name.
Likes: Leather and silk, candles and incense, fur, torturing and killing anyone who happens to displease her, sex, S&M, money, heavy metal music
Dislikes: Kindness, love, overly cheerful people, being ordered about, being poor, pastel colors, Muggles and Mudbloods
Does your character like Quidditch? Like she's going to root for some Mudblood to win the Cup? Yeah right.
---ABILITIES---
Strengths: She's rather persuasive and a very skilled actress/liar. They aren't magical skills though, she's not a Veela - she's just really good at it. She's also extremely skilled at dueling and is renowned - and perhaps just a little bit feared - for her skill with a wand.
Weaknesses: She's very proud, and if taunted or provoked, can easily be thrown into a rage, which causes her to make mistakes and therefore she can be tricked into doing something stupid. She favors rich, powerful men too, so if one was to seduce her, she could be deceived into betraying herself. She also likes to show off a little, so even though her spellwork is quite powerful, one could conceivably get through her defenses while she was busy parading her powers and not paying attention to her surroundings.
Powers: Occlumency, Animagus
---OTHER---
