History:
Oliver's parents, Calista Torlen and George Hircine, met under strange circumstances. George had just seen the newly graduated Calista leave platform 9 3/4 and was understandably surprised, as he was a muggle and a woman had just exited a solid column. He approached Calista rather madly, chanting nonsense. Calista recognized that George had seen her, so promptly knocked him out cold.
Realizing what she'd done, Calista dragged George away and to her house, where she hid him in a heavily charmed cupboard, feeding him with food she managed to sneak in. When she was upset, she had conversations with him through the door. George was still confused about the whole situation but eventually fell in love with her.
After a week of his initial kidnapping, Calista let George out. She was tired of the secrets and was very fond of George already. As she pulled out her wand, she explained she was going to do a simple memory charm. At that moment, George explained that he couldn't possibly forget her. Calista was smitten. So she introduced him to the wizarding world, explained his absence as him running away with her to the London police and his parents and married soon afterwards.
With parents like that, there was no way in hell their children were going to turn out normal. George had a job at Cambridge University as a Professor of Classical Literature, while Calista become a translator at the Ministry, being proficient in over a dozen languages. Shortly after marriage, they bought a house and moved away from their parents. They faced some difficulties due to the magical barrier, but managed to get through. They had Rose and then Oliver a few years later.
Oliver was a often shy child, taken more to his father than his mother, who was more of a role model to Rose. His father showed him literature and Oliver was fascinated by them, particularly the works of Shakespeare. As a result, his language became very advanced and he matured very quickly due to the themes in the plays. He begged his parents to let him go to a drama school before Hogwarts (at that point there was little doubt he was magical; when he was one his alphabet blocks arranged themselves into the words 'A Surprising Turn of Events' MAGICALLY), he absolutely loved acting and became quite deep and excellent at stage performances. He learned how to sing and dance in a Broadway fashion and performs a musical, usually in the starring role, every year.
It was in his first year that Oliver learned a variety of things, the two most important being: Depth of personality is not appreciated at school and his grandfather was fucking insane. Oliver quickly became quiet, partially due to his maturity compared to his peers and partially due to the reputation his grandfather had given his surname. For the most part however, Oliver simply attached himself to a small group of friends and passed through school quietly for the year, a near-impossibility due to the complete madness of the Death Eater controlled school.
Over the holidays, however, his grandfather, recently freed from Azkaban and given a Order of Merlin, 1st Class, became quite involved in his life. His sister had her first vision and Goldeye was over the house a lot, teaching and tutoring her through clairvoyance. Oliver sometimes joined them and was intrigued by the philosophies and ideas Goldeye presented. He believed that Seers had a duty to follow through with Visions and Prophecies, to make sure they are upheld in order to continue some sort of balance in a chaotic world. Oliver managed to comprehend his lessons on a emotional level, as opposed to his sisters intellectual level, and applied himself to reading Goldeye's various Divination books. Goldeye picked up on his interests and had many lively discussions with his grandson.
In Oliver's second year, he had his first vision: his paternal grandmother getting cancer. He told Goldeye, who was disgustingly delighted at Oliver being a Seer and slightly delighted at the grandmother's inevitable death: she was a fundamentalist Christian and naturally hated magic. Oliver did not tell anyone else though, allowing his family to find out in the time they were meant to, even though if he had informed them before the cancer was found, his grandmother's life might of been saved. This duty to preserve order in his Visions gave Oliver steadfast and eerie resolve he was unaccustomed to, but only in situations relating directly to his visions. Usually, he was quite shy and nervous about situations.
In the same year, Oliver discovered that he was gay after a relationship with one of his closest friends. Though the relationship with the boy fell apart within a few months, as relationships at that age often do, Oliver realized he didn't like girls in the same way. This made Oliver all the more shy as he realized his taboo. Over the next few years, tales spread and his homosexuality is generally known and accepted.
Only recently has he decided to rebel against the teachers as a way of venting frustration, due to a excitable and destructive new friend Melissa. He constantly graffiti's and pranks other students and teachers, leaving the signature of 'Horatio' or 'Horatio With a Gun', a image that he finds very profound.
Personality: Quiet, shy and reserved. Oliver is quite articulate and mature for his age and is very aware of the current state of affairs in the world. While not normally brave, Oliver can become quite aggressive when unjustifiable things happen, such as people attacking his blood status, sexuality or grandfather. Usually uncertain about many things, Oliver takes on a steel resolve when dealing with prophecies and visions and ensures they are followed through, no matter the cost.
He is quite sentimental and emotionally deep and only breaks free of his natural reservations while performing. He takes a 'The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow' take to life and adapts to situations with ease.
