History:
The Kohana family already had three children before the birth of Amaya in December of 1994. They were a wealthy family, her father being the head advisor to the emperor himself and her mother, the creator of a very famous fashion label.
The eldest son was eight when Amaya was born, making him mostly in charge or caring for his younger siblings. Amaya was always very close to Mamoru and kept her distance from her two older sisters, Minako and Michiko. As a result, the two of them formed a very close bond and the protected each other from the harsh actions of the parents.
When Amaya was two, her brother was sent to a boarding school in Russia. They kept saying it was for the best. They said that if he studied hard and thought of nothing but school, he too could possibly become the advisor after his father. Mamoru tried to refuse many times, thinking of as many ways as possible to stay close to his family. After about a week of yelling and fighting he was forced onto the plane, leaving Amaya alone with her sisters.
Two years later, Miki came home one day a announced the long awaited arrival of the newest member of their family. The following year, Kohana Kurou was born giving Amaya her first younger sibling and second brother. He became very attached to Michiko and Minako and was raised in the world of the tomboy sisters. Despite her loneliness, Amaya was kind when she needed to be and this paid off when the twins were born a year later.
Keiko and Suichiro followed Amaya everywhere, always telling her she was the prettiest person and giving her compliments. Amaya took these to heart and began to believe she was perfect. When this belief came into play, she began studying more and making time to practice things like piano and violin. The better she got at these things she more she loved herself. She got perfect marks in elementary school and those marks carried on through middle school as well. Soon after that she began to study English and became quite fluent.
Three years after the twins changed Amaya’s was of thinking, another boy came along. Her mother’s fourth son, Kohana Zen, was the result of her mothers recently discovered cheating. Though her father knew nothing of this, the children were very awake of the fact that their mother has seeing a man from her company. They kept quiet about it for the most part and laughed silently about how their father didn’t even realize that Zen’s blonde hair could only be the result of another man.
As complicated as home life had become, nine year old Amaya’s school life was filled with love letters in shoe lockers and confessions on Valentine’s Day. Loving the attention, she wished for it to never stop and continued to look her best every waking moment.
The day her newest sister was born, Amaya was 11. It was early January and she was complaining about the cold weather. She silently wished that something would happen that would warm her up and while she was walking down the main road, on her way to school, a store nearby caught fire, melting all the snow down the street. She stood by the store for several minutes and ended up being late to school.
Only minutes later was she rushed form her classroom to go and greet her newest sister, Ayame. Later that day, the news was doing a report on the mysterious fire at the store on Kobayashi Lane, the store Amaya had passed. Apparently they searched the small store for hours and found no evidence for a reason the fire was started. Nothing in the store was very flammable so to go up in flames so quickly was truly a phenomenon.
Amaya pondered the possibilities for months, thinking of different ways that the store could have caught on fire. Her obsession with the truth caused her to carelessly overlook the other odd things that happened around her. She didn’t notice how things she wished for would somehow come to pass, such as, she really wished that something would happen to the school so they would get out a few days earlier for break. Shortly after wishing this the principal of the school fell very ill and they were forced to shut down the school three days earlier then planned. She began to hate working and bettering herself and soon found it impossible to concentrate.
Once she finally decided that the fire wasn’t any of her concern, she returned to everyday life. Her hate for working carrying over, though, and casing her to begin to hate herself. She didn’t understand what was so wonderful about her before until she got her Hogwarts letter in the mail. Her ego seemed to multiply as she read the words and listened to explanations. She was a witch born into a muggle family. Her discovery of her ability to do magic made her feel that she had only become that way because she had become as perfect as a muggle could become and needed to expand her world.
She began to study magic diligently, falling in love with learning again. But after her first year, she started to slack off and not work. Her laziness causing her marks to drop significantly.
When her mother's business took off across Asia, Amaya's career as a model for clothing also continued to get more and more time consuming. Unfortunately for Amaya it was her mother's intention that her daughter finish school before becoming too serious. She only let her continue because Amaya's mark were high. Often her mother would threaten her that if she got marks and lower than what she was receiving that she would not let Amaya continue with photoshoots period. Not even in the summer or on breaks.
The idea of losing this privilage killed her on the inside so Amaya worked hard to do well in school, not bothering with other people. She studied most of the time, still making sure she looked good when she did it. She went to the library frequently for the quite eniroment one could never get in the Syltherin common room. So much of her focus went into studying and getting good marks that Amaya quit going to Hogsmeade with the rest of the older students and instead worked even harder at her weak subjects.
Because of this her marks were near perfect. She lead close to the top of her class and continued on that way. Not doing anything fun or interesting most times. She never went to Quidditch games and never spent time outside for fear of getting too dark a tan. Her pale skin was key to her image in magazines. Over the summers she spent in Japan or some other part of East Asia filming dramas and recording songs until eventually she was a relatively well known entity in that part of the world.
Unfortunately, no one in Hogwarts really knew much about a famous Japanese singer. Her mothers fashion company went international just after Amaya entered fifth year. Everything seemed to be perfect until the economic crash in Japan that led to a decline in MJFashions consumers. The company was falling and Amaya's image was falling with it. She was a model for a company that was going under, after all.
When her mother's company fell Amaya didn't want to do anything at all. She continued to study more than ever and became even moer anti-social and bitchy toward other people. Even through all of the crap she was going through she still felt she was definitely more important than everyone else and she looked down on people. She was very hard to get along with in the beginning and things just continued to get harder for her. She stopped paying attention to anything in the world outside of Hogwarts and was even considering transferring to a muggle school in Japan where her mother and eight siblings now lived in a small apartment. It was cheap there and torturous for anyone living there in the two-bed room apartment.
*Personality:
Saying she is vain doesn’t quite sum up the entirety of Kohana Amaya. Though she gives a friendly conversation every now and then, her self-righteousness drives people away and she is generally walking around and waiting for compliments. She is always carrying around a mirror that was given to her by her eldest brother, Mamoru, and looks at it any chance she gets.
She freely expresses her view on things and generally starts a fight with whomever opposes her. She loves to argue and tries to get her point across in any way possible. If she wishes to understand something, the will do anything to get her hands on the information.
