When making a canon character, keep them to their personality described in the books.
Only advanced, active roleplayers may apply for the most important canon characters, such as The Trio, or Order members. If you take a significant canon character, it is expected that they are kept reasonably active... on occasion, they may be given away if you are inactive for months at a time (I will attempt to contact you before doing any of this, dont worry).
Also, if you know the future of your character after Deathly Hallows, try your best to stick to it. However, just because your character is alive in the epilogue, does not mean they can not die in Wizarding Redefined (we dont want to constrict the plots and give an unfair advantage, you're basically immortal that way!)
