---BASIC DETAILS---
Full Name: Katrine Treft
Date of Birth: 8th May 1998
Place of Birth: Manchester
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Appearance: Katrine is quite short and slight, about 140cm high, but she's hoping she'll grow. She had dark brown hair that she keeps cut short for convenience, and even darker brown eyes that are usually serious. Quite pale skinned, she is liberally freckled, especially on her face and arms, and burns if she is careless in the sun.
Her dress sense is practical in the extreme, and she couldn't care less about fashion, Wizarding or otherwise. This means she's usually dressed in t-shirt and trousers, or layers of jumpers if the weather is cold, of varying colours and styles. The same casual approach goes for jewelery, though she does have a weakness for earrings.
Occupation: Student
---BACKGROUND---
Heritage: Half-Blood
Family: The daughter of Lean Treft, a muggle bookshop owner, and Owen Treft, a wizard, an employee of Eeylops Owl Emporium.
History: Born in Manchester into a half-magical family, Katrine has grown up knowing both the Muggle and Magical ways of doing things, spending about equal amounts of time in each world, though physically living in the Muggle one. From an early age, she had both helped her mother out in her bookshop, and her father in the Emporium, with the result that she is comfortable in both.
Nothing very important happened in her life - apart from the usual thrills and spills of a young child - until she was eight, when she showed her first signs of accidental magic by chopping the tops of all the shrubs in the garden, in a fit of impatience at having to help with the weeding. Her parents, after having figured out what was happening, were most impressed, and very pleased. Katrine didn't show many other traces of magic, however, and her father began to be a little worried that she wouldn't be accepted into Hogwarts - starting his worrying rather early - but then Voldemort rose again, the Second War started, and suddenly, they had rather more important things to worry about.
Katrine and her mother went to hide off on the Isle of Skye - though it is debatable how helpful that would actually have been. Either their hiding spot was good enough, or they were simply unimportant enough - a not very powerful Owl handler was hardly an important target - but either way they all managed to survive the war, moving back to their home in Manchester almost as soon as it was over, and joining in the general rejoicing. This resulted in Katrine missing pretty much the entire war, so she doesn't really understand what many people went through. Yes, she's heard the stories, but never having experienced it means that all the terrors of the war are rather distant.
Her Hogwarts letter came soon after, and her inordinately pleased father immediately took her off to Diagon Alley to get supplies. Her mother, though slightly less pleased given how dangerous the Wizarding World seemed, was none-the-less very proud of her daughter.
---GENERAL CHARACTER TRAITS---
Personality: Katrine is shy, very shy, and incredibly bad at interacting with people she doesn't know. She never starts conversations, and if approached, usually responds with politeness, answering questions fine, but being absolutely useless at actually initiating anything interesting. This same shyness leads to her being embarrased very easily, and she often finds herself thinking about her actions far too much before actually acting, with the result that things often don't turn out the way she wishes them too.
With her friends, she loosens up greatly, displaying a rather dry sense of humour, a love for having fun, and a wish to keep her friends happy. This can lead to her being rather a pushover, however, more then likely to simply go along with her friends because she wishes to avoid an argument and, because, she often does enjoy it when she lets go a little, and stops worrying so much about embarrassing herself, or what others think of her. She's very loyal to her friends, and hates it when friends argue as she usually ends up caught in the middle, mediating, because of her generally calm attitude, and 'Live and let live' philosophy.
Likes: She likes fitting in, and being in small groups with her particular bunch of friends. Katrine also loves books, voraciously reading at every opportunity everything from Great Expectations to Rare Magical Turtles of the Antarctic. In the almost complete antithesis to this, Katrine adores nature, loving to be outside, to walk through the Hogwarts grounds, or to simply stare up at clouds.
Dislikes: Large groups and especially parties. Any occasion where she might have to get dressed up. Feeling embarrassed, feeling out of place, and having to work in groups.
Habits: In a nervous tic, Katrine often laces her fingers together, but other then that nothing in particular.
Does your character like Quidditch? Katrine likes watching it, fine, and likes messing around on a broomstick, but has never actually played official Quidditch, her father not being too keen on heights, and most of her friends being muggle children. She isn't sure whether she'd like it, though, as she's never been big on team sports...
---ABILITIES---
Strengths: Katrine works well on her own, and is self contained, not needing people around her to keep focused, or to be happy. Because of growing up in a semi-magical family, she knows some of the magical basics, which gives her a slight edge in her beginning classes at Hogwarts. She's not afraid of hard work, especially in order to get the school results she wants,as she is not without some ambition, which is good, as it makes up for her less then innate grasp on magic. She is far better at understanding theory of magic, and absorbing information from lectures and textbooks, then actually performing it. She can keep a calm head in a crisis, and is good at making carefully though out decisions, with plenty of evidence to back them up. So far, she's unsure which subjects she is either better at, or prefers.
Weaknesses: Magically not the most powerful witch in the world - she can usually manage things, but it takes practice and doesn't come naturally. Katrine can seem rather self-centred because of her dislike of interacting with new people and can come across as rather harsh and cold. Her great inability to work in groups also hampers her somewhat. She's not good at making quick decisions, and is rather wary of her emotions, preferring everything to have sensible reasons then simple feelings, with the result that she can be rather slow to act. Having missed the Second War by being in hiding on the Isle of Skye - about as out of the way as you can manage - she experienced none of its terrors. She often forgets that many people suffered during this time, which can lead to her seeming rather insensitive.
Powers: Nothing special.
---OTHER---
Pets: A female grey tabby cat (no particular breed other then 'Pure-Bred Stray'), called Shepsit. Shepsit's about four years old, and has come to Hogwarts with Katrine.
Wand: Apple wood, 10 inches, unicorn tail.
Broomstick: None
