---BACKGROUND---
Heritage: His family tree originally tells him that he is northern Slavic from the mountains. However, the Steins have been living in London England for about four generations.
Family: Marrissa (Half Giant) and Guy Stein (Half Giant) (Mother dead and father still living).
History:
Years back, before Hugo was born, His mother and father had an accidental pregnancy a few years after they graduated from school. Both families looked down on the pregnancy with disappointment. However, one family was worse than the other.
Guy's Parents were the traditional type of Half-Giants that rather see their son grow up, marry, and have kids. They ignored those who followed a different path, and always complained on how they were just killing the government around. When Guy told that Marrissa was pregnant, they came out in rage forcing themselves to kick Hugo out of the house and out of their lives. They did not want to deal with such a failure. They, according to Guy I "Rather have no son at all, than have a son that is a father so early in life." This hurt Guy very deeply. It took Guy quite some time before finally getting over it.
Marrissa's parents were disappointed, but were not the rage-like beasts that would kick their own daughter out of the house. Do not get this wrong. Her parents were mad at her in the beginning, and did have their own share of yells, but thought it was best to help raise the child with her. They were Marrissa's parents, and Marrissa was their daughter. M\Not helping them would bring guilt to the mother and father eventually. Unlike Guy's parents.
Hugo came along to the house about a day or two later telling what happened earlier on with him. He told him how his parents were cruel and never accepted the way of life others lived besides their own. Being the polite and caring parents Marrisa had, they offered him to stay with them and raise the baby. Marrisa's family was now his new one, and, according to Guy "...Could never find in his whole life such caring people like Marrisa's parents."
Guy was lucky enough to manage to keep the job in the Ministry, rather than be overwhelmed with the new baby coming up. He was a smart fellow, and did well keeping his problems from taking the best of him. Because of this, Guy managed to bring some income (even if it was not that much) to support his family. Marrisa did not work because of the amount of work it took to carry around a half giant in her stomach.
Because of how tiring Marrisa and Hugo looked, Marrisa's parents also pitched in with galleons to help them out. Especially when the baby finally arrived January 30 1978.
Both Marrissa and Guy were proud to have a baby boy. After a few days at St Mungos, they were allowed to go home and take care of the baby. However, now that the baby had a mouth for eating, Hugo was forced to work more hours at the Ministry to pay the medical bills. More hours meant less time with the baby. This greatly saddened him.
After a few months later, Marrisa finally was allowed to have some time off, and help the family's income by starting to work. Marrisa's parents were willing to help out with the babysitting seeing how there would not be anyone to watch him. Marrissa finally worked herself out, and got a job as a co-manager at a wizarding store in Diagon Alley. She did not make as much as Guy did with his Ministry job, but made enough to afford for Hugo to stop working so much hours.
In 1989, Marrissa's Mother was introduced to Brain Cancer and died later that year. This sudden death struck the family greatly. However, the father of Marrissa was crushed the most. He lost his wife, and at such a young age compared to most Half-Giants. However, he needed to keep the family going, and could not afford to be such a sad-nap kind of person when everyone else was. he needed to be a man, and stay strong for his daughter. Otherwise, he was afraid that this family may fall apart.
Hugo was ten back than, but did not quite understand how his Grandmother was such a loss. Yes, he would miss her, but he was too young to understand how such a thing could be sad. Hugo saw his grandmother's death as a new life in a greater place; like he was taught by his religion of course.
A year later, Voldemort finally fell by the hands of Harry Potter The Boy Who Lived. This not only brought happiness to London, but also brought disturbing news to Guy's father. It was in the newspaper the next day that said Guy's father and Mother was convicted of working with the Death Eaters. They were given orders to persuade the Giants in fighting along side Voldemort for his army. Reading this news in the Daily Prophet brought unwanted memories that Guy wished to forget.
Guy explained how traditional his parents were to Hugo. He told Hugo how they were the kind of Half Giants that would do anything to be in higher society and the perfect family than everyone else. Guy even said that he was kicked out of his house just because of Hugo himself. He told them that they joined Voldemort because they wanted a better world for their kind. A more traditional and better life style for all Giants.
He also told Guy that it was wrong for them to go into such ways. He said that joining something evil will never get what you want. No matter how high the standards are. Hugo believed this and swore to his father that he would never join such a cause again.
His devotion to never joining the Death Eaters made him want to become an Auror. However, he was not smart enough to ever become one. Because of this, Hugo was denied the possibility after taking the NEWTS. This disappointed him, and because of his failure, Hugo just took a job as a shopkeeper after his seventh year of schooling.
Fifteen years later (Hugo was 27), Hugo heard the rumors that the Dark Lord came back. However, due to his absent minded self, he believed every word that the Ministry told him. He believed that Dumbledore only spread these rumors to get the Minsitry position, and that Harry just wanted to get some more attention.
Death Eaters escaped soon enough after the rise of Voldemort. However, Hugo's grandparents were already pronounced dead in the Prison of Azkaban before Voldemort arrived. With this said, there was no personal family affairs when the prisoners escaped.
He was lost in the busy life of the wizarding world, and could not keep up to date on current events. His hours were getting longer and his days were getting shorter. It was not until a few days later that his father finally woke him up to real life. He showed him some proof (His proof was the ragethat happened when Hagrid came up to the mountains making the example of the Giants not wanting to be involved with the Ministry nor the Order. -Book 7) of that the Dark Lord was really back, and were planning to gather the Giants once more.
His father's wishes was to go to the upper mountains to try and prevent this from happening. He did not want something like the Giants lining up with the Death Eaters to ever happen. Such things could lead to big problems for the government. Because Hugo was so devoted to his father after all that he did to support this family, Hugo did not think twice before going up to persuade the Giants.
As he went up to help the Giants, he ran into another half-giant. This was a rare occasion indeed for half-giants were a rare thing indeed. He ran into a guy named Hagrid that worked for Dumbledore. They discussed things, and became friends.
Hugo told Hagrid the things he wanted to do as he got up to the Giants. Hagrid was surprised to see someone that had beliefs so similar to his. It was even rarer because Hugo too was a Half-Giant.
However, such luck could not last forever, Hugo was not much of a persuader leaving Hagrid the one to do the talking. As you probably well know, Hagrid was unsuccessful in trying to persuade the Giants to not join Voldemort. They both left with scars on themselves due to the rage that the Giants revealed to them.
Failing his father made Hugo disappointed in himself. He told how hurt he could imagine his father being when coming back. Hagrid felt this sadness inside Hugo. He saw how compassionate he was in preventing Voldemort from ever taking over. With this seen, Hagrid offered him a spot in the Order of the Phoenix. With the order explain ed to him, Hugo joined immediately.
Hugo helped out in preventing the Dark Lord in taking over Hogwarts. He fought the death eaters with both his magic and unbelievable strength that was naturally given to him by being both wizard and giant.
His courage and strength was honored by the Ministry of Magic. With the amount of Death eaters that he took down, and the courage he revealed with it, the Ministry offered him a spot as a Hit Wizard, but also wanted him as an Azkaban Guard. Hugo was big, and they could never afford not to place him in such a place. Hugo was more than honored in taking this spot and graciously accepted the opportunity. He took both jobs, and was never happier in his life.
Hugo has never been more happier than ever. He has two great jobs, and a loving family that is willing to be there for him no matter what happens. A year later, Hugo even managed to buy a place of his own in the wizarding world that is big enough to one day be able to take care of his father when the time comes. As long as he is in this position, Hugo would never have a sorrowful day in his life.
