The Dark Mark hung over Knockturn Alley last night for the first time in over a year, signifying the murder of Hilary Rodham, Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office, aged 54.
The victim's body was discovered with green blood flowing through her veins, possibly the new call sign for the Death Eater group. Also at the scene was a young male Hogwarts student who has been taken in for questioning.
The body has been sent to St. Mungos for autopsy, though preliminary results show nothing, suggesting the use of the Avada Kedavra curse.
In a reticent press conference held at dawn this morning, Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement Gordon Flintock appeared steadfast and solemn.
"Ms. Rodham's death was an unexpected shock, and an attack that has struck close to our hearts." said Flintock.
"We do not have reason to believe the boy present at the scene was responsible. No charges have been pressed yet, on anyone, but thorough investigations are taking place as we speak."
Some political commentators have called for Mr. Flintock to be fired, accusing him of negligence in regards to rounding up the remaining Death Eaters.
"I can assure you that Gordon Flintock is a hardworking and adept leader." Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt assured the Prophet. "This is the first sighting of the Dark Mark in over a year - that is a remarkable fact, but not a sign of failure, rather of achievement, that this has been the only major public attack since You-Know-Who's death. The number of followers that he had accumulated during the war was massive."
Rumoured blood relations between Ms. Rodham and notorious Death Eater Juliet Lee remain unanswered.
