Character Adoption

Welcome to the Character Adoption Center, where the generous and uncreative alike gather to broaden their horizons.

We strongly encourage members to adopt at least one character. Adopted characters are great, because they help build character families and social networks, which in turn deliver richer roleplay opportunities and more involvement between members. They also have the advantage, usually, of having a place already set out for them - a history (at least a basic one), family, and sometimes close friends.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that there are some severely marginalised demographics here - mostly Males, Slytherins, Gryffindors, and anyone younger than a 4th Year. So, if you pick one of those groups, you'll be giving us a hand in balancing the scales.

Putting a Character up for Adoption

If you would like to put a character up for adoption, such as a relative or someone from your character's past, then post a reply to this thread using the following template:

Adopting a Character

If you've selected a character that you like the look of, then send the person who posted the adoptee a private message, and you can build a profile together. The terms of your arrangement are up to you both to work out - just remember that the other person can deny you the right to their character, and if you don't like where the character is going, then you have no obligation to continue.

Other Info: Christian and Lucas were very close when they were young, but when he was in Hogwarts, he started going with the wrong kind of people.

He joined Voldemort right after leaving Hogwarts, because he followed most of his friends, and he also wanted the power that the Dark Lord promised. One of his friends was a Death Eater's child and was marked as one as well, when Chirs and the others found out they joined as well, to satisfy their need of power.

But a year before the final war Voldemort killed his girlfriend because she had information about the Order (or so he said), so, Chris told the Order (by sending an owl to Professor Dumbledore), about one of the upcoming raids and when on the raid, he started helping the Order. But after that they tried to capture him as a Death Eater, so he ran.

So he called Lucas for help, who sent him to Asia where he had a friend who could help him to change his identity. But now he's coming back and he'll once again be Christian Alexis.

Name: Sarah Crennent

Age: Early-mid 40s.
Occupation/Intended Hogwarts House: Sarah is an Unspeakable at the Department of Mysteries. She would probably have been in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw had she attended Hogwarts;
Relatives/Friends: Mark Crennent, husband. Padril Crennent, son (age 20), Timothy Crennent, son (age 19). Mark Crennent has solid experience in the potions field and has at one point or another worked for the ministry, but his job is left open for whoever adopts him. He is several years older than Sarah. Padril is an author and a reporter for the Daily Prophet. Tim works for the ministry’s Accidental Magic Reversal Squad, and also owns the business Crennent’s Quality Quidditch Supplies which has been in the family for decades.

Appearance: She has dark hair, and is Caucasian, shorter than her boys.
Personality: (This whole part is fairly flexible) She is fairly good-humoured and this has rubbed off on her children and is reflected in her choice of a husband. She enjoys their joking but feels obligated to “be a mother”, so would often punish the boys “inappropriate” behaviour while simultaneously enjoying it. As described in a thread where Padril flings a meatball at Tim and she “grinned, but then remembered herself and scowled.” She can be belittling and condescending but usually has more of a quieter backseat role in the family. She clearly loves her children and will often do more than they ask of her. She won’t normally admit this but she has her moments.
History: (Trying to keep this brief so as to allow you space to make your own character. Parts of this are changeable, others not). Sarah was born in Brisbane, Australia. She was a pure-blooded wizard. After graduating from the wizarding school there with honours, she became one of the brightest up-and-coming Potions experts in the nation. She often toured the country, attending and occasionally giving lectures in the field. This was how she met her husband, Mark, in her early twenties. They got married and settled down in Adelaide, and Sarah gave up her career to have Padril.

When Padril was born, the Crennent family was put under a lot of stress. During his first few months of infancy, little Padril would often get sick. He had trouble sleeping at night, which meant late nights for Sarah, caring for him. Mark was forced to work overtime to afford to pay for their new lifestyle (both a child, and only one parent working instead of two). Whenever Mark came home from work, it would be all that he talked about. Whenever they were alone away from Padril, he would be all their conversations. They argued occasionally - she tried to get him to quit smoking the pipe around the baby, he wanted her to look into doing some work from home, since they were struggling to afford all of the costs associated with a newborn child. Though they never actually fought, their marriage, and family unit as a whole was strained, they were distant for quite some time. Sarah felt she had nobody to connect to, and began to look for outside sources.

She confided her feelings with an old friend from high school. They connected - he was unhappy with his marriage, she was unhappy with hers. They got carried away, and before they knew it they had slept together. Sarah soon found she was pregnant again - this time with Tim - the illegitimate child of her one-time love affair. She has held her secret to this day.

Timothy was born a healthy baby. Mark and Sarah's marriage grew strong again over time. Mark found there was more, higher-paying work available in Brisbane, so they moved there a few months after Tim's birth to be closer to family and to hopefully be able to finance themselves better. Sarah remained a mother and a house-wife, teaching the boys from home before they were old enough to attend a wizard’s school. She is proud of the hand she had in raising her boys.
As Padril approached age 10, Sarah decided she was going to return to full-time work. Prospects looked good for both of them in England, where most of Mark’s family was located, so they moved there and the boys attended Hogwarts. Sarah then took up her full-time work at Department of Mysteries. She takes the secrecy of her job very seriously, but is known to spend most of her time in the Love Chamber or the Time Chamber.
Padril has since moved out and Tim lives at home but spends little time there. Mark and Sarah are rather well-off, fitting into what you might call lower-upper-class. They feel their time and wealth should be put to good use, and thoroughly enjoyed being parents, so are considering adopting a child, but not one which is too young so as not to eat into their golden years. Or maybe just a cat or something.
Would like to tap into the whole Tim’s fatherhood thing at one stage or another. Overall, this character wouldn’t be too intensive to roleplay, but some Department of Mysteries stuff could be worked into the plot, and now that Tim and Padril are out of school there’s more room for that sort of family roleplay.
