Nat blinked and squinted as Fayre shone her wandlight directly into her eyes. "Concussion?" she squeaked, listening as Fayre made notes on her clipboard. But in the wake of the next question, all thoughts of concussions vanished.
"What I remember..." unconsciously, Nat brought her hand up to her ear, playing with her earlobe. This was something she had often done before her accident, although of course she did not know that. "I don't..." her breath was coming a little quickly, as she screwed her face up in an effort to think. "They told me...he told me my name, after he saved me. Natalie. And then...Gordon...he said I was an Auror. But I don't...I don't know." she looked up at Fayre with scared eyes. "I don't remember," she choked, a tear spilling down her cheek. "Why don't I remember?"

"You've been through a serious trauma, Natalie," Fayre said gently, placing her hand comfortingly over Natalie's small, bony one. "This is your mind's way of protecting itself from what happened to you." With her free hand, she tapped her quill with her wand; immediately it jumped to attention and began scribbling down notes. "Who was it that told you your name? Gordon?"

"Trauma?" Nat chewed on this silently, thoughts fizzing in her brain. She was gradually becoming more coherent, and less child-like, although her mindset was still very immature.
Trauma. What does that mean?
It means something bad happened.
Something bad. Like maybe they-
HUSH, Natalie, HUSH. We don't talk about that.
"No he told me before Gordon showed up," Nat babbled in response to Fayre's next question. "He saved me, took me from the bad place, brought me to Gordon. He gave me my wand."

Fayre nodded understandingly. She'd have to ask Gordon who this mysterious 'he' was - clearly Natalie had no idea. "And then Gordon came, and he brought you here," she said. "Do you know where you are?"
Fayre was beginning to grasp an idea of Natalie's condition. It seemed that she had purposely blocked out her own personality and all of her memories; but anything not connected to her emotionally she was able to recall. Nat's next answer would confirm her suspicions, and then they could go from there.

But maybe it would help, maybe she could help-
No one can help! I'm the only one who can help! You wanted me, you called me, you asked me to save you and I did! So HUSH!
But-
No buts. Just hush. Don't think about it. Push it back. Stay quiet.
"We're at St. Mungo's." Nat said. "Fourth floor. Spell Damage," she added helpfully. "I -"
HUSH!
"I don't want to hush!" Nat screamed suddenly, putting her hands to her head. "Stop telling me to hush!"

Yes, it was just as Fayre thought - Natalie appeared to have a severe form of psychogenic amnesia. She was busy scribbling down a few more things when Natalie began to scream, and claw at her head.
"Natalie!" Fayre leapt from her chair and grabbed Natalie's wrists, holding her down to stop her from hurting herself. "Natalie - Natalie, look at me!" She said sternly. "Deep breaths, like we did earlier. Who is telling you to hush?"

Nat sucked in lungfuls of air in an attempt to do as Fayre said as tears rolled down her cheeks. "I can't -" she moaned, thrashing her head from side to side. "I won't - she won't let me - it won't -"
Easy, Natalie. Just relax. I'm here.
And like magic, Nat's muscles relaxed and she once more lay back, quiescent, on the pillows. "I'm not allowed to talk about it," she said calmly. "When I try to think about it, she tells me to hush, she gets angry. I'm not supposed to remember it."

Fayre was deeply unnerved by this bizarre turn of events, although she did her best to hide it. "Natalie, I've got to go talk to Gordon now. I want you to try and get some rest, okay? Don't try to think about it if it will make you upset."
She stood and moved towards the door, motioning for Susie to join her. "Keep a close eye on her," she said under her breath, so Natalie would not hear. "See that she sleeps. Do not leave her unattended." With that, Fayre hurried from the room and headed towards her office to compile her report and wait for Gordon. It appeared that Natalie had more problems then even Fayre could have predicted.

'See that she sleeps. Do not leave her unattended.'
Susie nodded, thinking that it would be a long and boring night if she was going to have to babysit Natalie all night long. Still it had to be done and she did feel sorry for Natalie.
"Will you be able to sleep?" she asked Natalie. "Try not to think about it, there's no point in upsetting yourself" she told her. She could give her a sleeping draught, but Natalie would be much better off sleeping naturally, and Susie wouldn't give her one unless she was too upset to sleep.
